what are your thoughts on the pusher fans? Will that help make the system cooler or will it only help with the warming at idle?

I would say, it depends.:hillbilly: It's pretty easy to make the clutch fan very strong, much stronger than most any electric. The Aisin and Eaton clutches thermostat and valve are strongly biased for good idle performance, if setup properly. So the clutch would be my first project, then if it's not enough, then maybe think about a pusher.

Some have reported a performance loss when a pusher was installed with a good clutch setup. My second step would be to shroud/seal around the condenser, so more of the airflow is pulled through rather than leaking around it.

Check with Inkpot. He just bought a 12 inch pusher fan and was hooking it up for his Supercharger. My smaller 8-9"? JDM fan made a big difference for my setup.

He also got the "super tune" on the clutch. My guess is that pusher thingy is going to be a drop in the bucket in comparison. I wouldn't even install it, until the performance of the new fan/clutch combo is determined. My guess is it going to kick azz:cool: ,,, as long as the blades stay out of the radiator. :hillbilly::wrench:

I changedto 10k last month which helped a lot. Mine is a 94 with the full finned black hub clutch. I did adjust the temp down from ~120 to 109 degrees. This was before I read the more current info that the fluid is more important than screwing with the timing. I'm thinking the ac could work better especially near idle. I'll order some insulation. I may try the pusher too since it's a cheap test.

Howdy! Yup. The plan is to install the super clutch and 3FE fan and then test it out real good before I decide if I will add the pusher. One step at a time, that's how I got the Piggy to run so cool it doesn't even need a shroud, or course it doesn't have to pull any A/C either.....

Here is my fan, I am ready for fluid!!

Red vs. Blue?

Found that on my 60 the fan clutch is red on the back. Filled one with 15k and its still not perfect. Will be trying the 30k, or 50k from Hobby Barn.

Also, replaced the #3 phillips with hex head bolts from Ace. Mucho easier to remove later while I'm tuning it.

The red hub is the most common '60 clutch. Don't have a lot of experience with them. One tuning indicator I use: Allow it to fully heat soak, hood closed, idle, A/C max, windows/door open, in the sun, hot as possible for 10min or so, then stab the throttle and listen for the belt to scream. If you can make the belt complain, don't want to go any further on the viscosity.:hillbilly:

I am going to yank it out tonight and let it start draining, then try and hook up with you on Saturday if that's ok. I have a dentist appointment on Friday afternoon and may not feel like doing much Friday night. It is the start of an implant.

Anything I should know before tearing it apart? Do's, don'ts?

Lucky you, I'm off to the dentist in a hour.:hillbilly:

Don't strip the screws, they are tight. Don't stretch the o-ring, be careful when taking the clutch apart, so the ring stays in one side, doesn't stick to both and get stretched. Match mark the sides, so it can be reassembled the same way it was.

When you drain it, make sure one of the ports on the reservoir is at the bottom, so the reservoir drains. The red arrows in the pix.

Damn it man!:hillbilly: Further review shows that the above draining method is only good for the Aisin clutch. The Eaton has an anti drain back provision, the pump out port comes to the center of the reservoir, so draining that way will be slow and likely to leave some old fluid in the clutch. The best method would be to prop the valve open and lay it flat.

Anyone with an Eaton who didn't notice as big of a difference as hoped, this is likely the reason. I'm open to redoing them.:o:hillbilly:

Dentist or not, I want to be there to see you weld that sucker back together!!

That magic will have to wait 'till after the dentist,,, maybe. I thought you have an Eaton that you were bringing by?

Yup. I was thinkin maybe after therapy on Fri. Like between 1-2. I'm workin on the mini today, trying to get it ready for market.

All this talk about dental appts. is giving me the willies! J/K I am a dentist and love my job. Good luck with your appts.
I've been having a hard time with my fan clutch. original Aisin froma 96. Last year I filled it with some 3000cst from toyota mixed with 15k from a hobby store. I thought I had filled even parts to the bottom of the plate per Landtank's instructions, but still needed it cooler. So I added a little more. Bad idea. Then it was on most of the time and I noticed a significant drop in power and mpg. So a month ago I installed a supercharger (love it), and drained/refilled with a smaller amount of the same mix, but then was running about 217 in traffic in PHX. So before a long road trip to CO with small trailer (1000 lbs), I added more 15k fluid, but still saw temps climb into 220s near Holbrook when pushing 75-80 mph. Wondering if I need to change out the trd supplied ring fan also? Someone mentioned I may be running lean with the SC at higher rpms but haven't had time to pull a plug yet. Radiator was replaced 2 years ago but didn't get flushed since then (I didn't realize how important that maintenance was, but now I see the buildup). Looking for help since one of the reasons I like the SC is more power for pulling trailers, but can't do much due to the heating prob.:bang: I live in Pinetop, so even a stock FC is fine except when I travel in summer.
btw-if anyone's going to install a SC, get the cooling system dialed in first, since access is much harder with the SC.
p.s. if you guys ever have a dental ?, feel free to pm me or call.

Most later rigs came with the Eaton, if an Aisin, yours maybe a replacement? Your mix sounds way to thin for AZ. Better off just draining and measuring the fill, as you found out it's not good to overfill.

The S/C is a real challenge to cool in AZ, have never seen one run even close to cool with the ring fan. The 3FE fan is showing promise, Murf and Inkpot are running them.
