Hello everyone,
I’ve had my 40 since October and have slowly been working through the list of items to get it running. The previous owner replaced the stock exhaust at some point and it is now currently hanging beneath the frame rail. It also has 3-4 holes in it. I did some research and i was unable to find an off the shelf system from exhaust manifold back.

I found a local shop in Northern Virginia that is willing to work up a mandrel bent 304 SS system from the manifold back. Obviously the more people interested, the cheaper the final project will be for everyone. Would anyone be interested? If not local, i’m sure the shop woukd work on shipping as well. Thanks! :-D

I have a 1978 with 2FJ. Im not sure what year range it would be applicable for other than the years of the 2FJ.

I'm interested in something that tucks under the skid plate and doesn't cross under the frame rail. Not familiar with what years are compatible though, I have a stock 79 setup currently.

I may be interested. I have a stock 1977 40 and would want a stock type replacement . Im in Iowa so shipping would be necessary.

Any pictures of what it will look like installed?

I’ve spoken to the shop to see if i can get a sketch or a rendering. He said he could get to that this week. I’ll add it once i get more info.

The plan is to go above the skid plate and have the muffler sit horizontal across the back of the fj.

Heard back from the shop. There is no drawing yet but here are the details:

“For pipe size I would like to match the diameter of the manifold outlet but I don’t know whether it’s 2.25” or 2.5”. If we build a 2.5” system it should be easy to scale down to 2.25”; going the other way is trickier as you then have to consider clearance theoretically vs hands on. But in any case, the manifold outlet is a good starting point.

And yes, a horizontal muffler in back. We can easily swap out which muffler, for example if someone wants a louder tone that’s easy to do.”

If you guys would like to contact the shop for details please email josh@threepedals.com to discuss this system.

Let’s see if we can get this ball rolling.

If the pipes were left a bit long then there would be some flexibility. Then it can be shortened to fit for different applications. F and 2F exhaust manifolds are interchangeable (85%) and frames pretty much the same (90%). The biggest obstacle would be auxiliary tanks... of which I have two.

So, interesting idea, but with a SBC, custom skid plate, air tanks, and Man-A-Free fuel tank... nothing ‘stock’ will fit.
