my long lost ratchet
home built mount for something
and a unneeded water sheild

how did the welding go?

cheers

i have found that when a tranny isn't sitting up right or tilted on it's tail the reverse selctor can move jaming the shifters. if you pull the back up light sending unit and take a screw driver, push the shifter back int place through that hole.
this might have been your problem or maybe not. i have had this happen more than once on trannies that were shipped to me...
cheers

For the new diesel tacho I ll swap a diesel tach into the dash and run the pump pickup sensor to the old sensor wire on the coil.

Cant wait to drive this thing:D

nice .. :D

for your tacho is from HZJ75 ..? in my HJ60 my tacho get signal from alternator cable .. I'm not sure if you alternator get this pulse ...

Can anyone identify these parts? I think they are off the front of my RHD FJ73.

Clue: They seem to have power steering fluid on them from an old leak.

If you can help ,please post a pic if possible.

Ross, the part on the right is a splash guard from the right side of the engine. Forget it, it won't fit the 1HZ. I've also seen the other parts lying around, I have no idea where it is from, but it's not needed.

That sounds like the problem
I suspected there was a simpler fix than removing the whole engine/tranny but I couldnt wait for an answer.

Dave the 1HZ gets its pulse from the sensor on the injector pump.
I will just be using the old wiring to get it into the dash cluster

I thought the 2H got its signal from the flywheel??

correct. tach sensor is on the bellhousing and signal comes form a magnet in the flywheel.

maybe it differs from year to year.
we are just tearing down/building up a 84 hj60, and the stock tach sensor is definitely on the bellhousing.
cheers,

A diesel cruiser was born

I ran out of light yesterday bleeding the air out of the fuel system so I got up at 6am and had another go.

I pulled all the glow plugs out ,spun the engine until I had fuel at 3 injector trunnions. It took about 20-30- seconds of cranking to get the fuel up.
I tightened everything up,shorted the glowplugs straight from the battery and it coughed some grey smoke and burst into life at 7 am.

It idled so smooth and quietly, even wtih half an exhaust and no muffler that the neighbours must have been real impressed too:rolleyes::D

I got some little jobs like getting proper glowplug relay, exhaust, coolant overflow bottle and some rubber brake vaccumm hose for the booster.

Im looking forward to taking it on along drive for a picture shoot:D
robs pics 107 (Small).webp

congrates, doesn't it just send shivers down your spine when the engine fires up after all that work?
