Hi all,
I just had the drag link end replaced on my FJ80 by a mechanic. It's a 555 part so should be good quality. They didnt paint anything so it's already rusty which bugs me (I'm particular) but I'm also already seeing grease coming out of it. Is this something I should have them look at/replace again? It's been about 2.5 months/4,500 miles. See attached picture. Thanks in advance.

I'd sand down the piece, then spray paint it. I'm surprised it came raw steel, and that grease should stay inside the boot. If it makes you feel better, pump some more grease in there using a needle tip for your grease gun.

I think I will sand and paint it. Just making sure it doesn't need replacing. It's not greasable, which is why I'm worried about seeing grease come out of it.

That's why I suggested using a needle tip for your grease gun so that you can sneak it into the boot, right where your fingers are opening up the boot to allow to grease to sneak out ;)

Seriously, just paint it and forget about it. I wouldn't worry about the grease right now.

The 555 rod ends come raw steel, I always paint them. A shop is not going to have time to do that.
New parts can a well be bad right out of the box.
Is there any visual damage to the rubber boot ?
You can check the rods ends yourself. With the tires on the ground engine running in park emergency brake set. have a helper move the steering wheel back-and-forth a little bit while you put your hand on the rod end if it’s bad you’ll feel play/movement there.

The surface corrosion isn't a big deal. As others have mentioned, you can use a needle tip on a grease gun to refill.

I was just under my LX450 and I happen to look at mine and snapped a photo. Mine is sprayed with Fluid Film, rather than painted. I am in Mass and the truck has seen sand/salt since installing, as you can tell.
