1990 Fj75 Usmc

I've recently spotted a couple of 1990-1991 FJ75 pickups at a US Gov't lot; I'm trying to figure out if it's worth bidding on them and hauling them home to keep or to sell.

They're both LHD with carburetted gasoline 3F 4.0L engines, manual trans & transfer cases, full-floating ft & rr axles, and split-rim 16" wheels with military tires. The under-carriages are pretty well sand-blasted, but I've seen both vehicle move recently, presumably under their own power.

The tan paint on the doors is faded from where "United States Marine Corps" stickers used to be. But here's where it gets weird: they have non-US VINs (11-digits) and the weight-limit plates are printed in Arabic with metric values (see att'd photo).

Has anyone ever seen or worked on FJ75s like these? Would you like to buy one?
More importantly, has anyone managed to get a rig like this registered as a driver? In California?

Thanks for any info or suggestions.

I think you should copy this post to a new thread. It's a valid thread for sure.

I would buy them if you can. No idea how to register. But either way they will sell to someone in the us for a good buck.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi From New Zealand

Hi

I am a new member from Christchurch in New Zealand.
I have a 87 BJ73. It has a 3b which I have turbo'd as well as ARB leaf springs and shocks. I have bent the standard bumpers so i built a new back bumper and bought a replacement front. I run 33" BFG goodrich mud tyres on trips. I have installed Lock-Right diff locks in the the front and rear. Currently I use the truck for Club 4X4 trips and towing motor bikes around.

hi there

Hey Everyone

I have a 1991 Landcruiser Prado, i think its a "BJ72", correct me if im wrong. Great car, 5-speed manual with all the extras, except mine has the 2.5 Turbo Diesel not the 3.5.

Sorry to sound like a dumb a$$ but the car has a battery drain somewhere, i have put 2 brand new batteries in it and if i leave it sit for more than a day the batteries are flat.
My question is this, where is the fuse box for it??

it also looks like i have a fellow friend from Christchurch above :)

Hey, just purchased an LJ78 with the 2LT-E. Should be here next week, cant wait. Gonna do the temp gauge and cooling system first so she doesnt overheat in this hot weather were having. Looking for overload coil springs for the rear, anyone got a part number for me? Any advice for parts or upgrades would be greatly appriciated!!

Cheers.
Kevin

Welcome to the forum Boddysurfer,

Go ahead and start a new thread to ask about the coils.

Also as a preemptive warning guys will warn about the heads on those engines....we seen lots of failures on here. But there are some definite help mods...

Cheers and welcome..... cruisers are fun!

Hi there Brownbear and the IH8MUD crew around the world.
I'm Paul from NSW Australia. I have a 1985 FJ75 that I am converting to 1UZ quad cam V8. Also in the build I have resprayed it inside and out, fitted 2" lifted springs, 2" body lift and 16x8 alloys with 285/75/16 tyres. Cheers
