Does anyone out there happen to have a diesel mechanic recommendation for 70 series work in the greater Dallas area? Mines running a bit rich and would love to have a trusty practitioner to turn to.

When you say running rich, what are the symptoms you're dealing with?
I am in Van Alstyne and can take a look at it if you want , I am driving 70 series for about 3 decades now . I do not take on third party work but can recommend Mike Goode from Goode’s Offroad as he has several 1HZ’s floating around also .

In heavier than normal throttle I get some black smoke out of the tail pipe. So thinking I am blowing unspent fuel and perhaps need to dial that fuel pump screw a bit…?

That's a sign you need to back off the throttle. But you could also back off the fuel screw a bit if someone has previously cranked it up. This is super easy to do. Join your local land cruiser club and make friends with someone who can help! Or make it a good diy project with forum support.
