I want to control my hatch light from the back near the hatch and from the front dash. Can these switches accomplish that? And anyone know how to do it? I can deal with wiring but I dont know how to do a 3 way switch circuit.

thanks for any help- and I did google it, no specific diagrams.

Wiring the TWO three way switches is pretty easy. Lot's of examples if you google 3 way switch.

Anyhow, here's one example -> http://www.how-to-wire-it.com/wiring-a-3-way-switch.html

It's for AC, but ignore the ground and assume the neutral is the Battery -ve and live is the Battery +ve.

cheers,
george.

Two things:

1) Those don't look like 3-way switches. The third leg is for the lamp in the switch.

2) Are you looking for 3-way function? e.g. Turning the light on with the front switch, then turning it off with the rear switch?

Yes, exactly that.

What you need to find are two "single-pole, double-throw" (SPDT) switches.

I'll try to make a diagram for you later.

Much appreciated!!

The link I provided shows how to wire 3 way switches which are SPDT switches. It is very common for houses to have a switch at each end of a room etc that allow turning on/off from either end.

Steve, with all respect to George, I think you're looking for what wires you'll tap into and where, amirite?

Where do you plan to locate the rear switch? In the hatch or elsewhere?

Well, his first post did state "...but I dont know how to do a 3 way switch circuit."

Here's something you can try:

Dome 3-way(V2).JPG

Remove the red/yellow wire for the back door switch from connector BR1 and feed that to the "common" terminal of your new rear switch.

The front switch common goes to ground.

Run two wires from front to back and connect as shown (in red).

The rear doors will still operate the light, the door/off/on switch will still function as normal, but will need to be in the "door" position in order for the 3-way feature to function.

Here's where to find the connector you're looking for:

And this is the red/yellow wire you need:

BR1 R-Y Wire.JPG

Remove the wire, or snip it, and run it to the rear switch "common".

Hope this works out for you!

Thanks, all good options. Now to find a nice rocker switch that are SPDT
