Just installed a CB (Uniden 520xl). Now I need to tune the firestick. Anyone around today to help me tune and that has an SWR meter? If so, call me at 350 five five three five.

Thanks.

I've got a SWR meter for a CB. I also have the club's HAM swr meter as well.

Just so ya know... The last time I harassed Beno about "unauthorized transmissions" my next bill from AmToy had a $75 surcharge for a disposal fee or something nebulous like that.

Is this a possibility?

They have them around Reno several times a year. Its a sponsored one day Ham study cram and test. However I couldn't find any in your area when I just did a search :frown:

I have contacted a local VE, Frank Warren, that will do private Technician training. He does not charge for the training. The only costs are $20 for a manual (ARRL charges $25 for this manual) and the standard VE charge for administering the tests which is $15. The classes are 16 hours. Others teach a "ham-cram" class where the students memorize the test answers and then take the tests in the same session. Frank does NOT conduct this type of training. Here is a link to the manual that he supplies for the $20. He recommends getting this manual from him and reading it before the class. ARRLWeb: ARRL Product Catalog

The classes can be broken up any way we want them. Typically it is a Saturday+Sunday. He also does a Friday evening, Saturday, and part of Sunday. He will do the classes any day(s) of the week.

If there are less than 6 students then he will do the classes at his house in Rio Rancho. More students means we have to supply a place for the training sessions. There is no minimum class size.

Frank told me that anyone can take the test at the designated time even if they prepared beforehand and did not want/need to attend the 16 hours of training. He said that he would arrange to do a "test only" if we give him 2 or 3 days notice so he can make arrangements for the other VEs to be there.

Thanks Mike!

I would be interested in any combination of the above...

If you guys do this, let me know. (or more precisely--someone wrangle Dad into going)

I'd do the class just for the refresher.
