Hey guys I am new to the GX platform and looking to do a 2-3" lift. I have a 2020 GX460 Premium package and wondering about what companies/products you suggest? As of now my plans are lift, wheel/tires, on-board air. This is my daily driver and will only see a rare amount of light off-roading action but mostly highway driving around 75 mph so want to keep a comfortable as close to stock ride as possible while achieving the look I am after. Thank you in advance for all your help!

Stunning vehicles you have there!

Premium vehicles should have spring suspension (no air). You can verify by the number of switches on your center console. 2 switches with 2 blanks are regular suspension.

check out this post by @TX GX460

in no specific order some suspensions you can look at for the GX

dobinsons MRA (located in Doral, but I’m not sure if they sell to the public)
eibach
Ironman foam cell pro (I’m leaning towards this)
OME BP51
Radflo

King
Toytec

there are a few more but that should get you started.

Thank you for your info! I only have the 2 switches with the blanks. I was pretty sure I didn’t have the air suspension and I’m glad that isn’t the case. Thanks again. I replaced the air suspension to coilovers on my Mercedes E55 so I’m sure this will be a breeze in comparison.

let us know what you plan to go with for all your upgrades. I’m sure someone will buy your stock wheels as well.

Can you provide more info on your fj

Will do, I will definitely be selling the wheels to go with a 20 inch offroad style wheel and Nitto All Terrains of some sort.

You don't necessarily need the Dobinsons MRA. You can use their basic Twin Tube kit with their springs. Treatyoakoffroad.com can answer your questions and provide what you want.

Thank you for the suggestion. Looking for something that rides good on highway/street for commuting. The only off-roading the truck will ever see are light trail rides and very rarely at that so more concerned with keeping a comfy ride quality while getting the desired look. Im leaning heavily towards these 20x9 Anthracite Fuel wheels with a Cooper A/T tire for less road noise bc I usually cruise about 80 mph during highway driving (yes my MPG sucks usually 15mpg)

Just my 2 cents worth, love the rim style and color, but consider a 17" wheel.
Reasons:
Most affordable tires will be in the 17" range.
  • If you're looking for comfort, a taller side wall will give a lot more cushion in your ride than a low profile tire, assuming you don't go with a LT (light truck) tire.
  • If you're ever off roading, and you air down, you're more likely to pinch the side wall of a lower profile tire than a tire with a lot of side wall.
  • If you're ever in the middle of nowhere and you should shred a tire, you'll most likely to find a 17" tire your size than a 20".
  • Also look at the Builds thread: 150-Series Toyotas
One other point, consider the size tires you get so you can still fit a 5th tire in the stock spare location if you don't plan on doing a swing-out bumpers.
Lots of good info and ideas there!
Enjoy!!

You're welcome. The Twin Tube kit is more comfortable than stock IMO. Less wallow, less dive under braking. Granted comfort is subjective but the Twin Tube is definitely a step up.

I second that you should contact Kyle at Treaty Oak Offroad (Contact or treatyoakoffroad@gmail.com) to figure out the best setup for your needs. He is the largest U.S. Dobinsons dealer, and he specializes in GX platform (he has a 470 himself). Dobinsons has some shocks that are specifically valved for comfort that may be a better bang-for-your-buck than the more expensive MRAs. He will talk you through all the options.

Yo man! Congrats on the purchase!

would love to help get you fixed up with a lift, let’s chat on PM or email and I’ll get you squared away.

You may want to consider the weight factor of the wheels. Most of the wheels I found are 30+ pounds but the SCS wheels come in at 24.5 lbs.

Not my GX, but here’s some pics of what you’re after.

These wheels look damn good in 20”. Too bad they probably weigh 40+ lbs. Color combo ain’t to shabby either.

Yea I saw this pics on another thread and has me excited to do this very soon. Love the way it looks

I see the "LRD" on that GX above, is there really a Lexus Racing Development out there?
Or is that just a "Wannabe" sticker.
