Need PTO Winch Shear Pin and U-joint Part Numbers (1 Viewer)

Hmmm - so just how snug should the shear pin be? Should you need a punch and hammer to remove or install it? And are you saying that the way MoCo's shear pin is "loose" is wrong and he has the wrong Toyota shear pin?

What is the "spudshaft" and how am I pulling it??
 
The pin should need some light tapping to install or remove. If it is loose it will tend to work it's way out if it is actually used much as opposed to mainly decorating a bumper

No I am not saying he has the wrong pin. I have no idea. The holes can become worn. This is one reason for not worry about whether a pin is OEM from Toyota or not.

The spud shaft is the short "Intermediate shaft" that extends through the frame from the winch. The one that..... has the ujoint attached to it.

Just a little info update for this thread. I bought the 70 series pin today. It is 5mm where as the pint I removed (which did take a little tapping BTW) is 4.3mm. SO there ya go. I wouldn't say that the extra .7mm is going to make a huge difference but in cross section it is 1.3 times thicker.

Now if I could just get the right spider joint....

Another update-

In my search for a spider I was given another shaft- from a later 40. A 3 piece unit that corresponds with the info for the 04371-10011 number. The 04371-10011 is indeed smaller that the joint on the earlier 2 piece shaft with the 04371-60020 number. approx 57mm cap to cap installed for the 04371-10011 and 68mm for the 04371-60020. Also the 04371-60020 is NLA here in Japan as well as in the U.S. Figures that that is the one that I need!

Looking at Toyota parts zone, the spider kit for a *J-60 steering shaft is 04371-10011, the same number you posted prior.

Looking at Toyodiy, for a 1975 1200cc Corolla, they list 04371-10011 for the spider kit in the rear driveshaft.

Also looking a Toyodiy, I see that a 1982 HJ-47 lists both part numbers for the PTO shaft, both 04371-10011 and 60020 which tells me they might be interchangable. Can't tell without the picture. Dan may know for sure.

NAPA shows them #PUJ395 for 25 bucks each, worth picking one up and trying it. But if these do fit, then they must be pretty stout if they were rear driveline u-joints for a car application. Toyota parts zone lists a 04371-10011 at 36 bucks, so there is some savings at NAPA.

Glad my post came in handy! But it sounds like this u-joint will only work for the '81 and later PTO's?
I was wanting to find a u-joint for the PTO on my '74 Pig.

Also, on this same application, my PTO gearbox is leaking where it joins the t-case. I heard that the gasket is critical for setting the pre-load on the PTO. Does anyone have the p/n for gasket btwn PTO gearbox and 4 spd t-case?
 
Not sure how critical it is, though what you say makes sense. When it comes to these things, I'm always suspicious of "critical" since LC could basically be maintained by a guy in the middle of Africa with nothing more than a sharp stick and a hammer.

The gasket part number is 36144‑60020 and while my local dealership (who are rubbish) didn't recognise that as a part number, this site certainly does and it looks available for three bucks.

I bought a small diameter pin punch and leave it with my shear pins in my FJ40. When I shear them, they are stuck fast in the holes and must be driven out with a punch. Replacing a shear pin 'in the field' already isn't that much fun.
 
Has anyone ever seen or considered a PTO "slip clutch" installed instead of the shear pin on a LC pto winch; may not be room. Tractor Supply has them.
 
PTO Shear Pin toyota part # 90240-05004

Genuine Toyota PTO shear pin part# 90240-05004 are available through Metro/Lexus Toyota in Victoria, BC for $1.65/each.

They have a cap on one end and a hole for a cotter pin on the other. The original pin that I sheared in my JDM 1988 HJ 61 doesn't have a cap on one end, it has a hole for a cotter pin on each end.

I am hoping they are the right size. It is raining cats and dogs and I don't feel like crawling under the truck to replace...

I have just put pto on kzj78 and drilled 4mm share pin out to 6mm and running ht bolts as was told that they share compared to mild steel bolts bending then shareing.
 
I found one spider kit here where I live (Colombia) for 25 USD. The guy doesn't have the box but the measurement is the same as OEM and it's new.
 
Hi All,

I copy the bronze cups and the rubber o rings of my NOS 04371-60020 spider.
Anyone who wants to renew these non existing pto shaft spiders this is an OEM quality solution.
All you need do is to pull the old unijoints and replace the bronze bearing cups, o-rings and fill with new grease.
The centre of the spider comes out intact just need a wire brush or sandblast before installing the new cups.
Be carefull dont polish up the roller surface where the brass cup sit. Too much rubbing can alter the oem tolerance and result grease leak.
