sub'd too. guess this is a good reminder to keep an eye on that TB/WP esp if planning a long trip.

What year is your truck? Don't forget you w-pump. I'm optimistic I think it will be fine.

The truck is a 1998 had 154xxx miles on it

I have all the parts I needed for TB and WP change, planned on doing the service once I got to AZ and sure enough to I am!!

So that is the bane of my existence right now! I am following the FSM and trying to get off the fan bracket. The FSM says remove two bolts and nuts then remove bracket, just so simple, but the bracket is not cooperating! Any ideas anyone?

My guess is you are missing the removal of the two bolts that attach sort of from the side down by the oil filter. See pic & text in the FAQ at post #8 of this thread. The FSM talks about these two bolts in the section on removing the LH side of the timing cover, then neglects to mention them in the part about actually removing the fan bracket. Thankfully many of these issues have been pioneered and documented by Mudders.

Thanks, I did find one bolt and I will look for another in the morning when I start back up.

That's what's left of the belt and guide, I will need to find a place to get a new guide to replace that one. Also the dust boot of the tensioner was gone and I didn't see a space once the pulley was removed. The number one cover was also damaged.

All taken apart. Water pump and bearings came out with no issues and I didn't see any damage to them.

Does anyone know where I would be able to get a new timing belt guide? I've checked online and local autoparts stores and pick a part places with no luck.

You're asking about the toothed part that's bent in an ealier pic? The crank angle sensor plate that goes on the end of the crank right?

Search Toyota 19315-50020 - may have to visit a dealer or buy from one online.

Pm Beno, he might be able to help you.
Also, get red TOYOTA coolant and drain that green s****t.

Thank you for the part number. That was my last effort was to go to a dealer and see what they have.

That's the plan, get that green crap out of there since I've already gone this far!

Well the belt is on and it is mostly put back together. There have been some hiccups but nothing major. Getting the belt on was fun, as well as getting the timing correct since there was no old belt to mark for reference. New wp, bearings and fan bracket installed. The worst part has been dealing with the AZ summer heat! Hopefully tomorrow I will start her up and then the truth will be known.

Best of luck to you! I hope it goes well. Do post up results. Very interested to know the outcome.

Well everyone I finished up today. And it was a resounding success!!!! The hundy is back on the road!

There was a lot of hiccups with minor things and also getting the timing belt on. I found a video on YouTube of a Toyota tech doing a tundra and I tried his ,ethos and the belt went on quick. Had a few one step forward two step back moments but in the end everything went back on.

Replace the belt, water pump, fan bracket, thermostat, and drive belt. I kept the green s*** instead of switching to Toyota long life but I just didn't have the time to make the switch. Oh well. In the end it all went well and so far everything works well and no leaks.

Thanks to this entire community for pitching in with help. And thanks for the timing belt for dummies thread, that was a life saver!

That is fantastic news! Very happy it turned out for you. What a story!

For coolant replacement check Zerex Asian. It meets toyota standards and is half the price. Its what i used for my coolant flush when i replaced the radiator.
