Guys - really need help understanding the market value for a 1970 FJ40. I am trying to lend a hand to the widow of one of my good friends and I am not tuned in to FJ pricing. The FJ40 was acquired about 6 years ago. My buddy put a lot of work and money into the truck (probably $20k+, see below), but I have no idea what the current market would dictate. I would describe overall condition as a 3.5/5, with the below updates / mods:

Pros:
Holley Sniper fuel injection
4Plus rear tire and cooler carrier with a Hi-Lift utility jack
New roll cage (looks awesome)
Power steering upgrade
Replace / rebuild of master cylinder, brake booster, front knuckles
New water pump, radiator, hoses and pulleys
Bilstein shocks
Best top front and rear seats
Overhead sound bar + underseat subwoofer
Pioneer head unit
Replacement 1F engine with 2F air intake
Davis Unified Ignition distributor and LiveWire spark plug wires
Warn 8274 winch
4-wheel disc brakes
Soft top with doors
Desert / Texas truck
Decent paint
Minimal rust

Cons:
True mileage unknown
No hard top or hard top doors
Windshield wiper inoperable
Heater inoperable
Temp gauge inoperable

What are your thoughts on market price? Let me know if you are interested too as we are looking for a reasonable buyer. Just drop me a line and I can share any details you need.

We cannot be of any help without lots of good photos....with what you have described, maybe $12k. Not having a hard top or hard doors will bring the price down a couple grand for sure.

It was listed on BAT three years ago when he was originally trying to sell it. Just never got around to it. There are about 150 photos.

Thats a nice 40. Should sell pretty quick at $15k. If you want to be patient, maybe $20k? The market said it was worth $21,500 in 2022, and the market has softened a lot since then. It still has a big pile of really nice expensive parts on it, so I think it would come down to actual condition of the body & paint through an in person inspection to determine if its on the higher ends. Appears to be a re-paint on the exterior...

What I really like about it is the uncut dash and body.

This would be a great truck for @wngrog to update with a 4speed and 2F

Agreed! Only looked at a few pictures and iooks really nice.

Keep in mind FJ40's and just about every other vehicle were selling at a premium during covid. Prices these days have dropped since then. It appears there was some frame repair in the right frt. I think it needs new body mounts or something isn't sitting right evidenced by the buckled panels on the drivers side near the A and B pillar, along with some other areas. It would be nice to see the floors under the matts. The electrical problems and top are going to hurt it. Theres no telling what's under the repaint. It has a lot of nice accessories that will help with the value. It looks like a nice driver. This thread probably needs to be in the classified section. It probably won't last long here. You might consider putting it on bat again.

You can look in the classified section to see what's being asked for, for other 40's.

Will do and thank you for the feedback. I did forget to note that the body was sanded, primed and resprayed about 6 years ago in the Desert tan. I think I may be able to get a pic or two if needed.
