Hi All,

I need some advice. I just purchased a 1965 FJ40 and it has water in the engine.. I am guessing a blown head gasket or a cracked block. I would prefer to stay with the 1F. Is it worth seeing if it can be rebuilt if it is not damaged beyond repair or should I just go straight to trying to find one out there to swap. Thanks much. Tim

It can be rebuilt depending on condition.

Always try a rebuild first. F's are tough. :zilla:

Very first thing to check if you have water in the block is the small 25mm freeze plugs in the cylinder head and behind the pushrod cover. Either will dump the crankcase full of water. They can be replaced without pulling anything.

Far too often major rebuilds unnecessarily occur just due to a small issue.

Water or coolant?
