I have a '76 FJ55 with rotted rocker panels... I feel like they have to be cut out and replaced, probably with nerf bars or running boards. Any experience with this? Advice on aftermarket nerf bars that work? This rig is mechanically sound but needs a LOT of body work. BONUS: any South Carolina body shops that are great would be appreciated!!

I deal with rusty pig floor and rockers around post #21 here:

I think @Roastchestnuts has a thread going on to where's he's making or replacing rocker/sliders along with some sections of floors on a 55. I'd guess he's sort of close to you.

What a great feed! I took away some really good tips here. Thank you! I actually wound up cutting off the rocker panels completely. I plan to seal them off and build some sliders/nerf bars or something… it’s definitely a work in progress. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah follow @roadstr6 build on the rockers. especially if you don't have replacement rockers. the way @roadstr6 did his seems most cost effective too. I have bob M rockers and they are great but they are kinda hard to find now I think. I still have the passenger side to do on mine. had to get a new mig welder to finish. Id be willing to bet your front body mount has some issues too. just make sure they are not completley trash. that body mount the more difficult part for me to get in place. also the fender flair/ rear wheel arch where it meats the rockers is kinda tricky. I spent some time bending and fabricating up a piece to go in that area.
