Has anybody ever used this stuff to remove rust on your trucks?

I used it (different brand I think). on the metal skirt panels that go to the top of the door cards (re-built the panels)...mine had some decent surface rust on them - they were a solid orange. Took off all the rust (had to do them 2x though)...then just hit them with some primer before re-covering and attaching to the new door cards.

Stuff works really well to remove the rust...saved me time vs trying to sand it off. It was just surface rust though...no huge scaling or chunks of rust coming off.

Hope that's of some use to you.

If the top coat is going to be a brushed on oil (Alkyd) based paint like RustOleum or ACE Rust Stop, or even Linseed Oil,
Ospho works great to remove rust prior to painting.

that's awesome. yes it helps. thank you.

Yes it works for cleanup of rust but does nothing to prevent further oxidation

Bear Lake's correct. I primed them the same day...you'd want to do the same...oxidation happens pretty fast if you wait.

Funny, I was just using this stuff tonight (Naval Jelly). To Major Nelson's point, it works great but often takes a few applications (apply, wait 5 minutes, scrub with wire brush, rinse off, repeat).

Wear some friggin' safety glasses. Phosphoric acid will ruin your day.

thanks guys. I'm putting together a list of things to do once the weather turns. this is one of them .

can you believe it will snow AGAIN today in NY. at this pace, I will only have time to change my oil.

Best rust remover in the world believe it or not is molasses. I am not a chemist so can't tell you why.

It does the trick though like nothing else. It won't kill or encapsulate the rust, it removes it completely, 100%. You don't use straight molasses though, you dilute it. You also soak in it for 2-4 weeks. After that wash clean with water and done deal with zero rust. Not easy to do for big parts but easy to do for small parts.

Search google or youtube to see more on this method.

You can also easily rig up a home made electrolysis method which works really well. Search google or youtube for more on that too.

Both methods I have found work way better than any product on the market and are cheaper. There is one product out there that is made from molasses and is for rust killing. I don't recall the name of it but it looks like water, videos of this stuff on youtube.

Great thing about these two methods, non-toxic.

Cheers

The best product I've found to fight rust is Jasco Prep & Prime.

It's a light acid that neutralizes rust and turns it into a paintable surface. Found in paint stores for less than $7 a quart it's a bargain. I have been using it for many years on metal surfaces and usually pour it into a spray bottle for application, but try not to get it on paint you don't want to touch up because it may discolor - turns some paint black.

Sprayed the surface rust on my FJ60 frame when I got it and the rust hasn't returned.
