Exactly, the current radiator does an amazing job cooling.
i see you have an aftermarket coolant temp. sensor on your upper hose, you would have a good gauge on how well your radiator performs. Just out of curiosity, what are some of your numbers on highway with AC on in the summer vs temp up a mountain pass with AC on?

Its hot where I live 110 F in the summer. Low humidity. On the highway with ac on I run at 165 to 180. Around town stop and go with the ac on and driving up the canyon roads with ac and it will run around 180 to 190. The only time it ever jumps above 190 is when I am offroading on really slow trails under 5mph with the ac on in the summer. I almost think it cools to well because it almost never reads above 140 in the winter. I have driven for over an hour going ice fishing in February and never saw it go over 140.

It does seem perhaps a bit on the cool side. The OEM thermostat starts to open at 88 degrees celsius (190 F) and is fully open at 100 degrees celsius (212 F).

Here are some pics of the truck with no radiator, I am thinking/hoping it is stock and the cruiser hasn't been modified.

Those are excellent numbers. When was the last time you replace the thermostat?

I replaced the thermostat 4 years ago with an OEM unit.

The core support mounting points look stock. There may be some elongation of the upper holes but likely not enough to cause a problem.

Quite frankly:) 80 Series Land Cruisers are a less than optimal vehicle of choice for broke college students. As new they were the flagship vehicle in the Toyota lineup. High-end vehicles take high-end money. Even when they are over 20 years old.

I sincerely wish you did not have this problem and I am sorry that you have to deal with it.

but at just ~$120 for a TYC radiator off Amazon, a broke college student could probably manage to refrain buying beer for a month ? :flipoff2:

Except that I don't drink lol. Is there really a $130 radiator on amazon that will fit my 91?

dude I have zero overheating even when out in your neighborhood but Im always at 186-190 in oct and 195-197 climbing the rockies with a supercharger chugging. so whatever that rad is its amazing. IF your numbers are accurate.

unfortunately no. The 1fz-fe radiator has a larger size outlet on the bottom, and i suspect you can retrofit one in there, and try to mod the fan shroud to make it fit. It also has a coolant overflow line i believe you will need to plug. Radiator express has a couple all alum. radiator to fit the 3fe application, but i am not sure how the fit and finish will be and i ended up going with the Ron Davis unit. I am jealous of your engine temp. and with my CSF, i was hitting upwards of 210-215 on hill climbs and around 200 on highway. I have high hope the RD unit will keep the engine temp in check in the 190s range.

I don't think it is fair to compare cooling between a different engines and superchargers. I feel like the fzj80's are just more prone to overheating. I don't know why that would be, but you don't see very many threads with the 3fe chasing high temps.

I agree with you. I am 85% done with swapping the radiator and WP on my rig and i will have real time hard numbers to compare before and after, CSF vs RD......and with your numbers as well.

Just for reference I am using the koso slim gauge installed in my upperhose next to the thermostat.

This is my Ron Davis...i do not have a picture of it installed yet. i will post a few this weekend. The RD is a good 1/2" thicker and taller than my CSF or factory unit.

Ron Davis makes some nice stuff, in the racing world (which I spend most of my life in) we use his stuff all the time.

Here are some more pics of the radiator if anyone recognizes it.
