Yeah thats a cat...and a pretty expensive one too, under Californias new smog law, the days of a 100 dollar high flow cat are over. Oh well...the thing ran like **** when i took it in but since the cat was brand new it burned clean and passed with flying colors. The smog tech was scratching his head cuz the thing was sputtering like crazy on the dyno. haha.(egr wasnt working right...i bypassed it and it now runs great)

Hey has anyone heard of or used F.O.A shocks. The guy makes his own shocks, they look great, and the prices are really good. All the reviews are positive...im just worried about being able to get parts if he goes out of business. But my Fox shocks are taking so long that im now considering going with this guy. Check him out...and let me know what you think. FOA OFF-ROAD Shock Absorbers ,FOA Springs, Coil Over, Offroad

Don't sell it, it's paid for with a new engine.

Don't sell it. That is a hella clean 60.

Agreed, I wouldn't sell it, especially since its gun metal gray. But, if you must sell it, I would start at at least $10,000.

So when the idea of selling my 60 came up in conversation with the wife she actually told me that i couldnt sell it! She loves it too much!:) Fine by me...i love it too. My economic situation has improved and im glad i still have it. Now its time to continue working on it. Unfortunately im doing a little rework. It has been burning oil for about 10,000 miles. So the head is at the machine shop again. Just got the phone call yesterday telling me my guides are bad. So since we all love pictures i decided to post a couple of my progress.

geez, what were you on assignment under deep cover for the last two years. Nice rig. :)

I'd love to know why the guides are bad after the rebuild - were they replaced at the time of the original rebuild?

Yeah interested in what they find... Great looking truck and makes me want to go back to my OG color. Even like the KMC Enduros..

Its really hard to say what happened. I never like to point fingers because i usually point at the wrong person. So ill give you guys the facts and let you decide for yourself.

The first person to do the machine work did an excellent job. They told me the guides and valves were all within spec so they did not get replaced. I only have about 35000 on the rebuild. I noticed a small amount of oil consumption from the very beginning but assumed the rings had not yet seated. The oil consumption continued to get worse, about 1 qt every 1000 miles and my spark plugs were covered with oil deposits. All of my symptoms were pointing to the head...smoke on first startup, and i had 170 psi in all cylinders. so i took it off and sent it to a different machine shop. He tells me that the seals are very brittle and my guides are worn.

One other fact...When i did the rebuild i set my valve clearance to .007 and .010 instead of .007 and .014. Not on purpose but i somehow got the wrong specs. Well of course this caused my cruiser to run bad as well as over heat a couple of times on long hwy climbs. Once i realized what i had done i immediately readjusted the valves which made it run and idle a lot better. Did that affect my valve seals you ask....I have no idea? But it seams like a hot valve could destroy seals. Or the first machine shop should have replaced my guides but didnt.:hhmm:

Hopefully my oil burning issue is solved after it goes back together.

Nice rig mate, hope you get it sorted. You know I've just started cleaning mine underneath and spraying it black and then I read your thread, boy have I got along way to go.
