I'm trying to lower engine compartment temp, my AC system struggles when it's hot out..did this help?To the OP, there is absolutely nothing to worry about concerning rain in the engine compartment/fuseblock/etc. I've run mine for over a year, and they "breath" a lot easier.
This concern about a little rain or snow in the engine compartment is basically an urban Cruiser legend that was debunked in the thread I referenced above.
If there was an issue with small amounts of water in the engine compartment from your vents, most Subarus wouldn't run, nor would Evos, or any vehicle that has a grill and an open engine compartment from the underside.![]()
Ok thanks, so it's probably a better idea to run an auxiliary fan in front of the radiator? A push fan on the passenger side? My radiator is new and my 1fz is fully rebuilt, I run between 190° to 208° in weather ranging from 90° through 104°Frankly, I would say minor, if at all. I've had these vents on for roughly 10 years (i had the templates from the OP after he was finished, then I passed them on). I love the vents, and would not go back from them, but can still run 160* while standing in traffic during upper 90* weather. I keep my cooling system well maintained, and I have to think it bleeds off some hot air, but without fans assisting, you re looking at pretty minimal.
Oh that's a good idea, I didn't think about neutral while stopped...I might need to add aux fan for low speed cruising.I was more referring to using a fan to pull air through the vents - don't know if anyone has actually done this. What I can say is that my truck gets warm in stop and go / sitting traffic - ~ 205* or so in the upper 90*s in texas, but when I get the road at 45-75 mph, the temp regularly settles down to 186-195, which I'm totally ok with. Today at 98* and doing 70+ mph on the freeway, I had to turn my A/C down a notch because it was so damn cold at highway speed pulling my 16 ft flatbed trailer. This speaks to the efficiency of the cooling system (in my opinion - ymmv) when running. The under the bonnet temps are still high, however.
I wlll also add that If I am stopped in traffic with the truck in "D", the engine will climb to 205, but if I simply put it in neutral or park when stopped, the temps dip fairly quickly to 193-198*, even when stopped.
