Congrat. We're like twins. I have the same seafoam color.

Toyrod got me hooked up with a nice set of used wheels and tires from a '60. They made a world of improvement. Have a look. See if you agree:

My tie rod ends are shot. I am going to get to work on those soon. That might be a fun Saturday project.

I'm also gearing up for the disc brake swap. Can someone make a specific set of recommendations on brake line tools? What do I need for flaring and bending? Which brand/type tools work best?

I also want to pull the top off, hence my roll bar search.

Yeesh! Never a dull moment with an old '40 around!

Oh, yeah, can someone tell me about this?

The passenger side of the under-hood compartment has this cool-looking rod running from the firewall stiffener out to the radiator frame (see first pic). The driver side, however, lacks such a rod and instead has a piece of plumber's tape (see second pic).

What is this supposed to be? What did it look like from the factory?

those are radiator support rods i think, i have them on ours. if you notice there are 3 holes on the radiator side, you can move it foward or backward for clearance. if im wrong please correct me, dont wanna give out bad poop. I think my cruiser is the same color as yours, good score on the cruiser you have.

I like the stock rims a lot better. They just need some decent tires to make them look really good.

The point is, I have a rod only on the passenger side. There is no rod on the driver side. I don't think that one could fit; the carb and air cleaner are in the way.

Is this the way the rig came from the factory, with only one rod?

On my 73 the driver side rod goes to the frame, just behind the shock tower, I can't remember where it wont on earlier models

I like the stockers, too. In my case, one of them was slightly dented. No big deal. They all need a fresh coat of paint. Looked like a lot of work. All of the hub caps are dented, some more than others. Replacements are spendy. All of the tires were shot. Dry, cracked rubber. Only two of them held air. The tire shops said they could only put P215's on the rims because of the width, and they had to use tubes on 'em because the rims lack a proper bead lock.

Since my '40 is a budget rig, I needed a budget solution. Finding used 15" tires is getting to be a real challenge. Toyrod came through for me big time.

I have an excellent network of Cruiser heads around here. Toyrod and Brew8 have been a big help to me.

I'll be selling my stock wheels and hubcaps here on MUD.
