Appreciate it! Need to practice welding the thin stuff more for my next project. At this point this is so close I can almost hear the engine's choppy idle!Nice work on the project man, especially on the fabrication of the exhaust and fan shroud. I wish I can weld as good as you. Love the 280z project.
That is a nice ride. I used a Dakota box as well. I tried to connect the Dakota high voltage output wire to the black wire from the check data, that didn't work for me so I tapped it to the wire from the combination gauge. In addition, I ran the positive wire (from vehicle speed sensor) to the Red Orange wire and speedometer works for me. There may be a break in your ground or power wire from your speedometer sensor. Some people said you don't have to use the Dakota box for the tac to work.A little update:
Everything is back together and I have been taking the truck out for short shakedown runs here and there. Everything is looking good!
Things to sort out:
1. Speedo isn't working. It quit a few months before the swap started and I suspect it's the sensor itself. I might have damaged it on one of the last trips Inhad that speing. It spins inside it's mounting hole and I donnot remember it doing it.
2. Tachometer isn't hooked up and I haven't done any recent research on how to hook up, yet. From what I remember dakota digital is needed even with Holley Terminator.
3. Strange shifter problem. I can get out of park only when lever lock override button is pressed. Need to see about that. Most likely will need to run a brake light signal wire from E7 plug. Currently that wire is connected to Holley transmission harness that needs that signal to unlock the torque converter when you press the brake pedal.
4. Need to finish the air filter box. Silicone coupler finally arrived and I need to hook everything up.
5. Toyota temp gauge. It bugs me not to have that needle showing something! Might just buy a modified temp senson from Matt, since I already did the wiring.
Here is a small video of it running and revving up a little.

Yes, I used Holley Terminator. 3.5" screen is up an running and does have everything I need. Just being a little OCD about it!Did you end up using the Holley terminator? I would be tempted to just use a screen off of it for tach etc. save yourself a headache. Digital screen more likely to be accurate. At least drive it for awhile until you want to tear into not again.
Thank you!1) Speedometer shouldn't be swap related.
2) Tach is easy, depending on GM ECM being used. Toyota's tach can be adjusted for different number of cylinder pulses or most GM ECMs can change its tach pulse frequency to match the Toyota tach (3/rev).
You do need to either pull-up the GM 5V pulses to 12V, or modify the Toyota tach to accept 5V pulses. You can spend money of a Dakota Digital tach converter, but not necessary and just adds more complication and cost to your swap.
Much cleaner done this way and one less thing to go wrong down the road.
3) Toyota Shift Lock Controller does need to see the brake light switch and the transmission in Park/Neutral.
5) I use the modified temp sensor from Matt and it works well. Marks 4WD adapter caused interference issues due to its added length.
