I got my Lseat Dim Grey covers about 2 months ago and have been waiting for some time to get it all done. I placed my order, had the money taken the next day and then about 3 weeks later, the covers showed up. Given what I'd heard on here, I didn't expect them for an additional few weeks. My only real gripe, was that they were shipped in a thick plastic bag and thats it, no additional cardboard box to protect against the hazards of the shipping world. Needless to say, the did arrive unscathed, so I've got that going for me.
I've been visiting this thread for a few months as I've geared up to tackle the install of my seat covers with Dorman heated seat pads and OEM switches. Thanks to
@asutherland for the write up, It helped me get through a good portion of this install with some knowledge instead of just stabbing around blind. A couple of notes I made that might help others.
1- To get the headrest guide plugs out easiest, I took the seat back off first, and then took a 15mm deep socket and 6" extension and pushed up from the back of the seat onto the bottom of the headrest plugs, its the perfect diameter to compress them and let them slide out with ease. Coincidentally, this is the same socket I used to press on and off my Gamaviti seat gears.
2- Since there are no pre-made holes for the hog rings to go into, and its a giant PITA to pierce the fabric and get the hog ring to wrap around anything remotely tight, I took a nail (actually its a used exhaust valve from a MINI cooper that has been sharpened on a bench grinder lol) heated it up, and used that to burn/pierce a hole in the fabric where I needed to put the hog rings. I feel that the burning action keeps the threads from unravveling when under tension. Also, good quality hog rings and hog rings pliers are a must.
3- Definitely do the passenger side first, so that your growing pains can be on the lesser used seat and will minimize the downtime. It took me a while to get my passenger seat done, and ended up having to re-do a portion of the back because i routed the leather incorrectly at the bottom. Hell, it took me like 2 hours just to figure out what to do to get the backrest separated as well as the seat bottom from the seat frame.
Don't just start taking out ALL of the 12mm's. Leave the 6 that sit at the front of the rail ALONE.
I'm hoping to have my drivers seat done today, depending on workload (doing it at work has benefits and drawbacks) but will post pictures when all said and done.
Thanks again.
