Awesome, for sure.

A couple comments:

Read the Optima battery thread on the chat forum and make them swap it out for an Odyssey before it is delivered to you.

I'm not so sure about the LED lights. I'm pretty sure that upgraded Halogens or HIDs will throw light further down the road than those. It doesn't matter how many 5w LEDs you gang together, the light doesn't go any further.

I'm surprised their shop is not as clean and pretty as their cruisers. :meh:

I have had the Odyssey batteries and they were much worse than the Optima batteries. Overall I have been more pleased with the Optima than any other battery. that is my opinion of course and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. just my 2 cents.

First off, great pics and I love seeing all the details of the build. TLC sure makes an amazing ICON and I wish Toyota had gone this direction instead of the FJC.

I was curious about the VIN panel in this shot:

How is the ICON registered? Is it registered as an ICON? Do they issue their own frame VIN? Is it considered a Special Construction vehicle? E.g. SPCN. I'm wondering if TLC had to go through federal crash safety testing, if they are issuing all new VIN's and building the vehicles themselves.

Hey pavie - Thanks!

All good questions, & for the most part - Beyond my purview.

So,... let me preface the following with - I don't know for sure, but this is my rough understanding:

How the process works is - TLC/ICON sells me a dilapidated Toyota FJ40 as a donor vehicle. From this original, legal vehicle, they create the ICON. Very little of the original vehicle remains in the final product. However, this is necessary, in order to classify the vehicle as a restoration. For instance, in my build, only the headlight bezel, bib hinge & vintage registration plate, from the original FJ40 remain.

A similar analogy would be in the home construction/remodeling biz. For example, you can buy an old house & tear it down to the ground,... and as long as you use & retain a certain portion of the original foundation, the rebuild can be consider a remodel,... as apposed to new construction.

Legally, my ICON will be registered as a restored 1971 vehicle.

Most simply put - TLC needs to go about it this way, because it's nearly impossible to become a legal car manufacturer in the US.

Again, all the above is a rough outline from my remedial understanding of the process. However, I do know they (TLC) has done the necessary legal work, to assure it's all above board & legal.

Cheers!

I really like it. I think you are nuts for selling it to me for $7500.00, but I guess you have your reasons!

Thanks!

LOL Always remember "Some People Spend It, Some People Bend It".

They guy bending it cannot start bending until someone is willing to start Spending.

Thanks.

My abilities ended with 'being able' to have it built.

Aside from that - I take no credit for it's actual design, quality or construction.

Cheers!

In the end, it was built the way you wanted it built. It is built without holding back.

Very nice...Congrats on owning such a nice piece of work. I think you maybe the only Icon owner to post???

I'm sure there are some here, who could build something just as nice, & perhaps for less money - But I'm not one of them.

My tip of the hat to those who have/could.

Cheers!

Love it, thanks for sharing. My 71 fj40 is coming out of Proffitts Cruisers from a complete restoration this week. Not all the bells as yours, but it will be a close second.

Beautiful. Are the axles, diffs and steering parts all custom, or Toyota OEM, or something else?
