My head gasket is doing great

Over 200,000 miles and my head gasket is doing great! The key is never read the engine not even to 5000. Keep it cool all the time. Drive it like you stole it.

That said I think I need to look at changing the valve cover gasket. Looking for a good video on how to do that.

Don't know of a video, but it's pretty straight forward, just fiddly. While you are in there, consider changing the the throttle body preheat hoses, 3/8" heater hose.

When going this type of work, our first step is to use the pressure washer, clean the area as well as possible. Makes the job less of a pain, reduces the amount of debris falling into the motor, etc.

Not quite 300K on my '97, original Head Gasket. I can't say for certain my HG is doing "Great", but its still doing O.K.

Of course...we all know what happens when a person says THAT! EEEEEK.

I feel a little more confident it will hold up a bit longer...now that CDan is retired. I truly believe he had little effigy's of our Land Cruisers and could cause them to fail at will. Though admittedly....He was kind to me.

I don't know if he 'passed' that on to Beno or not?

Just read this and laughed given my earlier post. I've thought about just dropping the motor in without changing the HG but since the motor is out and I have all the parts, why not waste more money and do it.

not reving your engine to 5000 rpm to keep it from blowing its head gasket is like not having sex with your girlfriend to keep her nice and tight for the next guy.
