Patrick. You should go. The 60 series do awesome at Hawk Pride, but unfortunately school lets out the week before... But I know all my LLK brothers will treat ya well. :)

Thanks Cody Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Hi...I'm Toon from Malaysia. Just want a quick reference from your expert guidance. I using BJ60 front axle with cable locker. I broke the axle shaft and ordered a new longfield chromoly inner long axle shaft 30 spline. Does it fit into the BJ60 cable locker axle? It is compatible with all locker?

Hey Toon, Yes as long as the shaft has the longer splines cut into it, which it looks like it has, it will work perfectly with the cable locker and all other lockers.

i finally got my dual batteries in and "mostly" working... if i can't get it 100% functional, I'm probably just gonna remove it all because fxxx it.

Anyway, I just got a job at Home Depot, so that means that i have this thing called money again!!!!

To celebrate, i decided it would be a good idea to start planning Woody's SOA!!!!!!!!!! I mean, all the cool kids are doing it so why not :grinpimp:

mcguirejohnson has been a huge help with his very detailed SOA thread and also with putting together a parts list for the conversion.

My shopping list so far:

-SOA "kit" -"front axle" (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/LCFTSOA.html)
"rear axle" (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/LC3-RSS.html)

-Hydraulic assist- Stage 2 (http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/hydrosteering.html)

-Steering- Marlin Crawler

-Driveshafts- Double carbons if needed

-Shock towers- F250 (http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.php/ford-style-upper-front-shock-towers-e5tz-18183-a.html)

-knuckle gussets- http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/TOYKG-OEM.html ($20+)

-Stock length shackles

-New spring bushings

-antiwrap bar- http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/merchant.mvc?

-17" dubs

-37X12.50R17 Goodyear MTR kevs

Im planning on buying this junk all at once so i don't have to pause in the middle of the build, so hopefully ill be able to get started in the next couple months. I know... so far away :crybaby:

Edits: crawlers are out!!!! 550 a tire that only lasts 25000 miles... I'm far too poor for that haha.

I love this thread! I read through the entire thing. Nothing like living in a wagon!
haha thanks, wagons are the best!

"double carbons" lol. Double Cardan is the correct term.
LOL! damn macbook pro... i spent more money on you so you WOULDNT make me look stupid!!!!!

Where you been hiding? I knew it was a matter of time before you decided SOA is the way to go. I like your set up, the only thing I recommend is drive a friend's SOA first, see how you like it before committing to it.

Have you wheeled your current setup yet? You should be able to get over pretty much anything how you are now.

I've been around haha, haven't posted much since i don't love new mud yet. i would drive a buds rig, but no one around here has an SOA wagon, they'll probably be a few a GSMTR, so i may snag one there haha. I've got flex envy bad.

haha yes I've wheeled the current setup. It doesn't flex very well. sure, it can be improved with a little fabrication, but i don't want to waste anymore time on it.

Dude, you can plenty of flex out of SUA. Did you ever fix your shackle angles? Longer flexy springs will help but just putting the axle on the bottom of your current setup will not make it flex more. Being tall and tippy will hurt you off-road, if you're doing it to fit 37s I understand but I'd take a lower armored, locked, geared wagon on 35s than a tall one on 37s.

Another thought, why not keep this thing as a clean daily/expo ride and buy a little 1st gen crawler that's someone has already injected cash into? You could buy a nice little reg cab crawler for $5k and it would wheel circles around a 60. You probably wheel a lot more than I do these days and people shouldn't tell you your business but if you're drifting to more hardcore stuff please take height into consideration, here's a cool thread over at that "other site": http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyota-truck-4runner/877646-low-riding-toyota-pics.html

And I really dig your ride by the way, you're doing a great job.

I agree with 90fj, mine is tippy and thus restricts my ability to crawl or go off camber. Then again I'm building mine for expo purposes, so it's all about what you want out of it.

Im planning on keeping this as low as possible. I understand that it won't be as low as a SUA truck, but we will be cutting off the SR and welding new shackle perches back on, removing a leaf or two from the ironman pack, trimming inner fenders and maybe even a tiny bit on the outside. i don't plan on moving more into the very hardcore stuff, when i do ill definitely just buy a built first gen 4runner or mini to beat on. Right now i just want something that will make me look like a huge poser while on trails more my skill level :)
I like riding with more experienced drivers on hardcore trails anyway, awesome way to learn to drive smart, and way less anxiety when its someone else's truck you're in thats about to go over... hahahaha!

edit: thanks for the pirate link, those the sorts of builds id go looking for when buying a truck solely for hardcore stuff. nice and stable.

Yep I know Sam, he's my parts guy and I've wheeled "near" (not gonna follow him haha) him a lot. My 62 is actually in the foreground of one of those pictures on craigslist.

Id like mine to be more expo oriented as well, I'm not saying i won't go wheeling at my usual parks anymore, but hardcore, rolling over, hitting more fenders on trees and rocks won't be something i go looking for. Woody's too nice for that.

I'm not convinced that going SOA will hurt you off-road. It should add wheel travel because there is more leverage on the springs in that configuration.

While soa will have a higher center of gravity than sua, by virtue of having more lift, your stability will stay the same if you widen your track width along with the soa.

Soa and more backspacing, or wider axles, is the ticket.

do what makes you tingle downstairs.

Sweet! The Hydro-Steer from westtexasoffroad is awesome and helps out a lot with on and off-road control. Are you going to go with the stock front spring hangers, or with the ruffstuff shackle reversal?

He's pulling his SR off and going stock.

If look at some frame tubes for new shackle mounts.

cool, proceed.

:rainbow::zilla:

haha thanks!

Ill probably go with a rim with 2.5" or 3.5" BS, plus crawlers are wider than my current MTRs.

Ill probably use the hangers from rusty or get some new ones from ruffstuff. but no ruffstuff SR.
