We discovered a nice big quarter sized hole on the tailpipe yesterday from something, probably the crappy freeways here in atlanta. So anybody have a good temporary fix? I was thinking that an exhaust clamp that covers the hole or that exhaust tape that some bikers use so they dont burn their legs off?

And i may just use this as an excuse to just get a new custom exhaust installed way up above the frame rails, maybe get a cat cut out so i can still pass emissions?

Ive been looking around and see that most people use 2.5" all the way down, as opposed to the stock 2" or 2.125".

And anyone got any advise on mufflers? im young, so i obviously want something louder and throatier than stock, but I'm old enough to realize how gay flow master series 40's are :D

for the exhaust hole you can get stuff called "muffler weld" its in a can and only works for about a week but for a temporary fix its good (not to be confused with muffler grease :flipoff2:) but ya depending on the size, you can use muffle putty with a piece of soda can to cover it.

Man a fre makes a cat bypass pipe, but a good exhaust place should be able to make one for cheaper.

for mufflers I have a 3 chamber flow master that came with the truck, its nice and quiet but with a good throaty roar when WOT but my engine is still 75% of the noise over the exhaust.

let me know what you decide for mufflers since im in the market for a new one since mine is a little worse for wear from rocks and corrosion.

FYI you won't pass emissions w a gutted cat. You only have one more year to pass however since after 25 years you are exempt.

Because it is a 3fe it is a bit harder but I would just have it rebuilt from the down pipes back. Remove the wired outside the frame rail cat and run it over the skid plate like a 60.

We have Nationwide by us do all of our exhaust work and I would guess it will be less than $500 for everything inc a new muffler.

Thanks ill look into that setup and update when i make my decision.

Yeah i really want to get rid of that stupid outer cat. crushing the piece that routes under the frame is something im good at.

And ill check out nationwide next week, id like someone who's worked on these trucks before so they may be just the ticket.
Thanks

I went to a Summit Racing house brand muffler 2.5" Offset In/ Out. Louder at 2500 rpm. A little more noise than stock all around. Not obnoxious to me at all as a 22 year old :)

Wow, just found this thread and went through all 24 pages... Twenty. Four. Pages. It was a good read!

Funny you say that, I was supposed to be working on my common app!

Just got back from the Upstate Cruiser event "Over the Mountain Tour" this weekend. Sooooooooo much fun! Excellent group of people (as usual), great wheeling, free stuff, AND some of the greatest cuisine ive ever had while on a camping trip. They don't check this thread but Thank You to BMThiker, Trollhole, ACC, Upstate Cruiser, Southeast Overland, and all the other venders for working so hard to put on a great event

So pictures... I dont have many cuz im a slacker..

(Since panoramic shots are for sissies and hipsters... 2 pics of the a few of the trucks in our wheeling group)

Both of those 80's are owned by Brians, one started up some website im always on, the other co owns the best cruiser shop... IN THE UNIVERSE
Id have Brian D's 80 (first pic) over any other 80, its too badass for its own good. I wish there was a build thread on mud about it :hhmm:

Just look at it...

I wasnt there to witness, but all accounts say this wasnt even the highest that front pass. tire got right then, and if it hadnt been for some skillful driving by Brian Dugan that thing would have been upside down on top of 2000UZJ's hood lol. TOO BADASS!!!!!!

Ill post up more pics of mine as they show up on facebook (maybe).

Some Golden mountain Park trail? maybe 14?

Aftermath :p

"I believe I may have scrubbed on that tree...":lol::lol::lol::lol:

good to see the bullbar doing its job and protecting your truck! ;)

Some trees found that as well lol. Im gonna wash the truck tomorrow and see what the rest of the mud is hiding

I don't know if I would allow my truck to take hits like that, but I don't know how careful you usually are seeing as you launched your 62 3 feet into the air!

If you go offroad with the guys I like to wheel with, there's a chance you will get body damage. If you aren't getting into situations like that, you aren't doing it right..

I've had awesome trips with no damage. Those are the best ones!

Y'all must have been staying hydrated ;)

Not really lol. I was just following some very built trucks. I was happy I climbed my way up to the top since I didnt even try it last year because i wouldn't have even made it up the first ledge. And after I saw the smashed fender I felt relieved haha, I still don't like body damage, but getting a small bit of it here and there doesn't really seem like such a deal anymore. Hammer it back out, buy a fender off a parts, or leave it. All cheap and simple solutions.

after the first dent, the rest come easier. its also nice when its on a replaceable part like fenders. and cruiser matt you can be careful as heck and still get damage. that's how I dented one fender.

and bambi, you are right if you don't get damage you aint doin it right :D blew up my LSD rear this weekend and lost 2 spider teeth and a carrier tooth

I was the most mildly built truck in the group but had complete trust in my spotters, ACC's Mike and Brian, and also Rick (BMThiker), so I wasn't too worried when I started. I pretty much knew I was gonna get caught up on things everyone else crawled/bumped it right over. I took longer, came down hard on the sliders and ubolts a lot, and touched more trees than anyone else.. But I probably had more fun than anyone out there that day haha. For me, it was challenging. I've had the fun easy days with no body damage and plan on having many many more, but this was the first trail I felt proud to complete and that was a pretty good feeling too.

Edit: yeah man, spider gear teeth are next on my "to mangle" list lol. Keep up the good work

ya don't do neutral drops then ride a trail hard for the next 2 days would be how not to break LSD teeth

More pics of trail 14. Thanks Rick for the great shots :)

Brian spotting like a champ with Michael feeding me some tips!

Good line, going great...

...Then slip right and slam the shackles, springs, unbolts, etcs.
Repeat like 50x until i just bounce right up.

Slider action on the big ass boulder.

Keep on chuggin.

Ill definitely be visiting that trail again, hopefully with a few more mods :hhmm:
