It's such a great feeling when you finish your first knuckle rebuild! Took a few weekends as i was moving slow, but i finally got it done. Test drive went great, so at least I know i didnt screw anything up. Got the front coils in, also.

The new tie rod is in also. Need to align the axles, then bring it into the shop to get an alignment, although i think i got it pretty straight....never hurts to check anyway.

Well done. I too was very happy to have done my first knuckle rebuild. Feels great when it's done.

It was time to remove the tired engine which had developed a knock. I pulled it the other day, and set it in the garage to start stripping parts. Sure i could do a rebuild, but i'd rather go with a fresh reman unit instead. All hoses, lines and the wiring harness will be replaced. Also contemplating pulling the trans as well to give it a refresh and a clean. The core support was also rotted on the bottom, so i will need to get a new one of those.

Updated build plans in first post.

Always makes me cringe a little when I see a vehicle torn down that far. I guess it's not that different from tearing motorcycles down to the frame...just different sized parts.

She's gunna purr when your done...

Not many updates, however I power washed and degreased all the sludge and oil i could. I am probaly going to paint this area first, as once i drop a motor in, it'll be difficult to get to. This is going to be a slow project, as I am trying to finish up my 2500 Suburban build first.

Got the motor home Sat evening. It's got 220k on it. The guy got the rig for parts, and doesn't know much except for that she runs.
Going to be replacing:
-Radiator hoses
-power steering pump hoses
-plugs/wires/cap
-any other hoses around the intake etc that are brittle
-front main seal
-rear main seal
-manifold gaskets
-heat sheilds/bolts
-thermostat/water pump
-blue hub fan clutch mod from Redline
-a/c compressor
-valve cover gasket
-starter
-alternator (already got a new one sittin around on my shelf)
-power steering pump off of my other motor
-Anything off of my other motor that is in better shape/less rusty.

This might be overkill here, but it'll give me reassurance that i won't need to replace these parts when it's bolted in and harder to get to.

As far as the transmission, it needs a flush and fresh filter. Broke a bolt where the shifter linkage goes, so i need to figure out if that's something i can replace, along with a plug for a sensor that was there.

Going to start diggin into this motor and trans shortly after I finish my main priority, which is finishing up the 12" lift for my Suburban 2500

Got the front part of the frame coated. The plan is to get parts on the motor fixed or replaced while it's in the garage, connect the trans and put it all back in. The reasoning behind that is I will be able to access parts that may be difficult to access once the motor is in.

As for the trans, i got the parts in to fix that. Going to start on that tonight most likely.

Warm & Dry is always nice...
Right now is a good time to trim for 37s.
Take out the front coils then cycle axle to see where tires are wanting to touch.
If not touching, then start removing bump stops.
Watch out from bottoming out the shocks.

Got some work done yesterday. I got the fuel lines connected, and a power steering line. I am going to upgrade the power steering cooler from Wits End, so I didn't bother with the paperclip shaped one. I cleaned out the oil cooler, and put in a Denso alternator I had laying on the shelf. I'll probaly rebuild the original one that was on it, and keep it as a spare. There was no starter included, so I brought one from Rock Auto. Also put on a new rotor cap. Old one was fine, but I want to replace what I can and be able to have spares availible if needed.
Does anyone know where I can source a new pulley on the bracket that holds the A/C compressor? I did not see one on Wits End or Cruiser Teq.

Toyotapartsdeal.com probably has your bracket

Got the new water pump on. This motor is going to need a good flush. The coolant that dripped out was mostly liquid, but what was left when i removed the water pump seemed sludgy and brown colored. Didnt smell oil, from what i could tell. None of it looked green. Did Toyota use a red coolant at all?

While I wait for another box of goodies from Wits End, I decided to start on the body work on the roof, which I never got to. I brought a dent puller from Harbor Freight. This is going to be a difficult repair, it won't be perfect as it's a trail rig and will be Raptor Lined anyway.
