So as some of you have asked I had some issues with the SCS SR8 wheels for my 2007 Land Cruiser. Truthfully I hesitated to make this thread because I didn’t want to be perceived as trying to stoke up people in my defense. I do not care about that at this point. I will not ever install one of their products on anything that I own simply because of their customer service. At one point I wanted them to acknowledge their error and I would have been willing to listen to some sort of offer to “make it right” but now I am past that. These emails are cropped to simplify for posting and are not edited other than eliminating some questions that are not relevant to the main point. I will post the entirety if necessary but it will show meaninglessness questions like discussion on lugs and not the main issue. This also has some personal information so please don’t be that guy.

I also want to add that I did not install these immediately because I ended up selling the 2001 and buying a 2007 a bit later.

Again, at this point I’d rather dump these wheels in the garbage than install them so I am not asking for anything. I want others to avoid the trouble I have had, nothing more. I learned quite a bit from this myself.

Thank you.

So back in Sep 2016 I bought a 2001 Land Cruiser and decided that I wanted new wheels. My initial question to them is here...

Cool, sounds good. So I follow up...

and...

And again...

And my reply...

So I think they were released in January of 2017. So I also followed them on IG and found the release on he Tundra forum. The Tundra was the reason they were developed but I also asked since the bolt pattern was the same if they’d fit the LC and the answer was yes, twice, as noted in my previous emails. So I bought them.

and...

Installed. Looks good, gotta start removing skids and get that lift but it is a start.

But there are some bad vibe issues...

So I returned to Discount Tire to have them check it out, all five were out of balance so they made the adjustments. I asked if that was the smoking gun and he said yes. Upon my drive home the vibes remained. I figured I’d swap the fronts and rears in case there was something with a tire. Noticed this...

and then I looked at the other front...

That is .12” of feeler gauges without trying too hard to be perfect.

So I email SCS...again some personal info, don’t be that guy. I didn’t edit because I want to show the entirety of the emails.

and the reply...and mine to that...

his reply...

Here is where I attached his previous emails where I was told that they would fit back to him. He never implied that they wouldn’t fit, in fact stated exactly the opposite.

At this point I realize they won’t accept that they told me that the wheels would fit.

That’s it. I am done with them. I have no interest in milling out a wheel and hoping for the best. I feel that it was clear that they would fit, I was specific, but it is my fault because I didn’t apparently ask clear enough or test fit them.

Be that as it may I am going to find another company to deal with in the future. For the record Discount Tire has been great and accepting of their error and offered to remove the tires from the SCS wheels and reinstall them on whatever I want for at no cost.

Well that sucks. You both have a point but i agree with you, im not a wheel guy so if i ask if a wheel will fit and the answer is yes i would have to take their word for it. I think we try to do our research but there is only so much you can do to find all the answers. Im glad the tire store is helping you out!

So sorry you went through this. I am in 100% agreement with you. As with any company selling and stating a product will work, where is the R&D on their end ??? Pretty sad after the proven emails that went back and forth that SCS would not stand up and offer a full/or partial refund. I have always had good luck with discount tire, kinda a bummer the installers didn't spot this during install. Wishing the best for you.....

Discount Tire has ordered in new wheels for me and is not charging for shipping. Their manager was embarrassed that they installed them that way and has been nothing short of being completely professional.

That sucks. Good to know the truth about a company though! Thank you for sharing.
On to the positives, what are your new wheels?

Customer service seemed great until they got your money. Sorry you are going through this but appreciate you giving the Landcruiser community a heads up on shady business practices.

Well, I am going to try the Method NV’s and see how those work out.

Method also said that they would fit, I even told them about this experience, he said no problem. Someone here said that it could be possible that there might be a hub centric vs. lug centric issue. Looking for that now.

Brutal story. SCS customer service has been great to me, but your situation is disheartening to read.

Methods are great wheels.

Ha, that manager is probably just glad he isn't facing a wrongful death suit.

This just further reiterates every experience I've just about had when dealing with any "tire" specific shop. Just dealt with something similar on my LX570.

s***ty ordeal on the wheels too. If you're patient enough you could probably recoup some of the money on those wheels selling them.

Oh man, disheartening for sure. And I have SCS wheels...

That is a lot of trouble to go through for some ugly wheels. :flipoff2: But, glad Discount Tire is being helpful - they usually are.

Wow. I read your entire email chain and it is clear as day he told you they would fit the Land Cruiser. Stealth placing the blame on you after they clearly told you those wheels would fit.

"Jason, yes these wheels will definitely fit on the LC" .

As a customer, that tells me these will slide right on without any additional parts or modifications. Seems to me the stealth rep just confirmed bolt pattern and not hub diameter, then got defensive near the end.

The worst part is Stealth could have easily refunded the entire sale to make everything right. But instead the used car salesman Vin tried to convince you that you'll have a unique setup.

That's a real shame. I do enjoy my SCS wheels and Vin was very nice to deal with. From these emails, he knows he's wrong but is unwilling to make it right, so he deflects.

Yikes, I woke up this morning thinking about how bad I'd like some f5's too. Something I'll always remember from my first job: the customer is always right. You weren't even a pecker about it, sheesh!

If SCS were my business, I'd never risk souring the appetite of potential customers. People who care about their vehicles talk to each other, and the LC customer base is even smaller and more important to cherish IMO. This could easily be a thread about how they took care of you right. Shame on Vin.

Since I told him I was going to post this online I also am not going to hide behind a screen. I just emailed him the link to this thread.

@Dparo - sorry to hear about this BS. And thanks for bringing it to our attention.

The very least you should do after this is to report it to both Better Business Bureau and your State Attorney Generals' office. Don't let these DBs get away with this without some heat from an external party.
