My experience with SCS SR8 (1 Viewer)

The unfortunate thing is I would expect that too much time has passed to file such a complaint which really is my fault. Life got busy, bought a diff LC, moved, etc. That is on me.

I emailed SCS the link to this thread, I have nothing to hide. This is on them. All I can do is let others know. The facts are on my side. This world is too small not to put this info out there. I don't want someone else to have to deal with this.

And really SCS should give me a full refund, but we can see that they have zero desire to do anything other than blame me. That says more about them and what they are about.

Dude I am so sorry that happened to you!

I have always wanted some SCS wheels for my Tacoma but after that trash. No way!

I'll stick with what I got.

Almost ordered from this company about 2 years ago.
Spoke to a vendor and i was advised they are on back order but will be available
In a month or two....he mentioned i could pre pay at that time and be priority on the list
BUT he said if you promise me not to bother him with phone calls and emails. Lol!

Thats all it took and i was able to make my decision.

^^ I was offered the same deal. I paid up and didn’t attempt any contact.

The wheels showed up two weeks early.

Coming from the tuning scene, and seeing all the shady/messed up s*** some wheel companies do, I can't say I'm the least bit surprised in how SCS treated you... Once they got your money.

I learned quick to not really mess with the "new school" wheel companies unless they have some serious and legitimate backing.

Super sorry you had to deal with that.
Good thing I'm not a fan of aftermarket off-road wheels lol

Sorry to read this; no question at all that you were 100% correct and SCS exhibited unbelievably poor judgment and terrible business practices. It’s even more amazing that in this internet information age we live in that they would be so stupid knowing how word travels on forums like this one. I will always check out a vendors customer service reputation prior to buying something and will give my business to those who treat a customer like I treat mine, with respect and fairness. What business wouldn’t want to have a sterling reputation realizing how much more business that can mean, and conversely SCS will lose tons of Toyota business based on this thread. How stupid. And Discount Tire, they get it right. I’ve directed more business to them in San Diego over the past 20 years because of the way they’ve treated me and the friends I’ve referred to them. SCS should do nothing short of refund your money and pay the out of pocket expenses you have incurred. The Methods look great BTW.

I had the exact opposite experience with my FN wheel purchase. If anyone is looking for a great CS experience and wheels that are made for our rigs, I can’t recommend them enough.

i will spread the news and make sure no one buys from that company.

I was considering F5s until I came upon this thread. Do any Methods work for the 100 in 16s?

@Drogon curios why you are seeking 16 in wheel replacement.

I ask because 17 and 18 have soooo many more tire options

@Dparo I'd take this post and put it on a Tundra forum (if there is one out there). If Tundras are who they are marketing to, it will leave a bigger sting than here and if you are lucky they will do the right thing and give you a refund.
Good luck

Yeah, I thought about that but the thread here has my name and I really didn’t want to put that out there. It was a lot of time to create the thread here with the screenshots and I’d have to edit it for a larger audience.

If the company says the wheels will fit, that means they should fit without modification. No reasonable person would assume that modification is necessary unless it is specifically mentioned by the seller.

SCS is 100% in the wrong, OP, and I would be royally pissed if I were in your shoes. So thanks for the heads up, I won’t be buying anything from these guys.

Well, you got them to add an all caps NOTE to their website...so seems like a result was had (mean that in a good way as the note does give valid info, not just a disclaimer).

I bought my Ray10s for my Tacoma from Vin about 4 years ago. At that time, I had a great experience with him and SCS.

I recently sold that truck and bought a GX 460 and was researching new wheels for it, hence how I came across this thread. Sucks to hear your experience man. I see the POV of Vin that he can't know each fitment of each potential rig, but you are right in the fact that he didn't hint to any doubt but rather gave false confidence that there'd be no issue.

I'm still going to give them another round of business. He was posed to take care of me when I had a potential issue with a one of the Ray10s, but I was able to get Discount Tire to work it out (definite props to Discount Tire for their consistent stellar service). I never held him to his word that he'd make it right because it ended up not being needed.

Either way, thanks for the shared info.

This looks like exact same fitment issue with @alphaequipt wheels. Difference is they were forthcoming about it and making efforts to make it work. Communication is key. Hopefully there will be revisions for new product coming soon.

After ordering the wheels they sent me an email and asked what vehicle these would be going on. And here is their reply after I told them a 100 Series:

“Regarding your vehicle platform, unfortunately we ran into fitment issues. We did design the 5x150 +35mm wheel to fit on your 100 series Land Cruiser, but we encountered an issue where the vehicle’s hub runs into the lip of the bore. Thus the wheel would not be seated properly. However there are two options you can do for it to fit properly:

Run the +35mm offset with a 1” spacer

We cancel your +35mm order, and order the +15mm offset and run a 5mm spacer.”

So looks like I’m going to have to run a 1” spacer.
The spacer is so the wheel itself will fit over the hub bolts. In the photo below you can see how the wheel will fit until the hub bolts hit the first part of the bore where it gets narrow. Yes they are 17” with +35 offset. The desired offset is up for debate but I think a +25 or +35 offset is perfect for this 8” wide wheel with 285/75/17 tires. The photo below shows my rear tires at +35 (no spacers).

I had to go on the site a few weeks ago to try to find the spline nut sizing because I did keep those (just dumped the wheels for 1/2 of what I paid) and I noticed that. I won’t take credit but I did get a laugh out of it.

BTW my Methods are still rocking. No issues.

I haven’t logged on in a minute.

Little update:

Swapped out the 18” Methods for 17” Icon Rebounds to get more tire around July 2020. Did a long trip and after I got back I did a tire rotation to get my spare into the mix. I noticed one wheel that was mounted on the back wouldn’t mount over the hub on the front. All four other wheels fit fine. I threw a mic on them and sure enough the one was milled significantly smaller than the other four. Coincidentally I was testing some cap prototypes for Ben at the time so no cap would fit the recessed area of the out of spec wheel, but all caps fit the other four wheels fine.

Fired off a couple of emails to Icon for resolution describing the problem and asking for a replacement wheel. Attached are the final replies and their solution. Also attached pics showing the wheel that was out of spec. I ended up having to order another wheel and it fit fine. It was definitely a manufacturing issue with the one wheel.
