So how'd it pull. What about 3500#. Trailer and car or is it a touch less.

Ended up not going with the snow/ice...

On another note, it was 7* F this morning with lows around 3*F. I still haven't hooked up the intake heater or block heater. She gets parked in the shade. It was COLD and the truck was covered with ice crystals. I was armed with a fresh can of ether when I went to start it this morning. To my surprise, she started right up with no help! She did take a couple revolutions and some help from the throttle, but it did start and ran just fine after a few seconds of bucking. Amazing how well the 6BT will start in the cold. Think I'll leave the ether back at the shop rather than listen to it roll around in the back for another 2 months :)

Resurrecting this thread with some updates...

First, the truck has been a great ride with the 6BT. LOTS of power. Not complaints, but it's time for the next step.

@cjmoon was nice enough to birddog some 3.55 gears out of Australia for the stock 3rd members. Before the rock crawlers turn over and die. Think about it. I have like 500ftlbs of torque (maybe more with my turned up 6BT, as I haven't put it on my dyno yet--- or will I ever? I doubt it...) at like 1500RPMs and a 4,000RPM redline with an automatic trans. Don't really need 4.56s, 5.11s, or the OE 4.10s like what I might normally need with an OE power plant and/or a clutch... Cruising at sub 2,000 RPMs is going to be NICE!.... -least that's the story I'm running with! :)

We did have to put the 3.55 rear pinions on my lathe to make way for the crush. Seems these rear pinions were designed without a crush in mind. Aside from that, cjmoon was at the helm and did a jam up job with the paint on the gear, dis and re assembly... After assembly, the gear mesh was was great and the ring and pinion from down under were the bees knees.

Sidebar: IMHO, the gear mesh doesn't really matter too much with 3.55s. You have tooth contact for days, but cjmoon is one anal dude with that and made sure things were the i's were dotted.

Back to my rig. We have ARB air lockers going in the front and rear of mine and looking to chat with Slee to get his rear bumper "custom" built for my needs. We'll get the bumper done and have the whole rig shot with a fresh coat of black and clear. I think it's time to leave the two tone paint scheme in the 90s, kill the gold Lexus livery, and go with mono-tone gloss black on black. I really wanted to make it white, but I'm both a function and form guy, and the white just isn't speaking to me on google images....

I think that's it for now...

Started the teardown. Rear diff is out. Not sure what oil was in the rear but it had a green tint and seemed to clean well you can see where the level was. Should have it all torn down tomorrow night.

Nice!

Well your balls don't look to bad for how old she is....

I couldn't figure out why Duiser said in the video that the 6BT was not powerful. They make GOBS of power for very little cost.

Is the one you have the P pump (inline)?

I want this rig when you tire of it. Hard to beat the 6BT

Because they had a stock motor and shift points that didn't let it Rev, but that's fixed now as reported 3800rpm spring and fuel pin with trans tuning for correct shift points. It moves very well for a big girl.

It's the VE rotory pump

I'll be a man of few words it's late.

Kurt @CruiserOutfitters hooked us up with ARB'S, as a last minute audible. Had them in Stock and shipped them same day.

Started the rear .... pics of some of the tools used ... you get the idea

ARB'S are sexy easy to set up switched carriers and still didn't have to change shims. Got to love the toyota precision that ARB follows

Pattern looks good .008" of backlash. ARB tucked around these Aussie 3.54 gears. Seems fitting

I am going to have to come and see this project when I'm in KC

Sounds good. When are you going to be in town?

So who was the original owner of "The Wallet Bruiser Built by Duiser"?
It was a gentleman out of Kansas City. Not sure if he is on MUD or not. He had another 80 series set up for expo.

The original pattern looked a touch deep for my liking.

ARB loaded with new bearings and ready for a test fit. Per the ARB instructions the pinion can come in contact with the carrier and needs to be looked at. Tetlst fit showed that the pinion did as well.

Lathe and an angle grinder worked well.

Really hard to see the clearance but fit like a glove

First pattern showed the pinion to shallow which was not expected with my deep initial pattern. Added .005" to pinion to drive it deeper.
