I wasn't going to post my build because I am slow, but thought I would because I have already asked several question and am sure I will have many more as time goes on. So I thought I would post a few pics of what I am doing, right now I am working on replacing my rear frame member and gussets. The holes on the gussets didn't line up with the holes on the frame member so I welded on a piece of the old gussets and re-drilled the holes. also I am enlarging the holes to fit M10 stainless bolts. When this is done I am going to pull the engine, trans and transfer then clean the frame the best I can with a pressure washer and wire wheel then I will coat it with rust bullet I also think since the body is in the air I will put some sort of sound deadner on it. Let me know what you think and smart ass coments are welcome.

udate

Here is a little up date. got the engine out and picked up the donor engine ( thanks prowlerdriver). The donor engine is from an '87 fj60. My plan was to put this engine in and rebuild mine. Now my question is would it be better to rebuild the '87 or is it a wash. Mine ran just fine before I pulled it I just wanted to make a little more HP and have a fresh engine when the rest of my build is done.

Nice run so far. Looks good. I like that yellow color. As far as your questions; my opinion is to keep it original. If your rig is running strong, then leave it be and just modify it with upgrades. These rigs will run forever. I have a 65 all stock that I am restoring and it still has all the original everything in it. It will probably outlast you if you just keep it fluided (dont think thats a word there) :meh:

Good luck with your build buddy.

update

Pushed the fram outside today and pressure washed it after spraying degreaser on it. pushed it back in and started to sand the frame down with my grinder. what a job this is going to be. anybody have a better way of doing it, besides taking it to a sand/media blaster. and whats the easist way to get inside the frame where it is boxed in. should I just spray a rust converter in there and call it good? I plan on using rust bullet primer and their black shell for top coat, anyone have any feed back on going that route.
Thanks

I have had very good luck with oven cleaner. IIRC it had to set a long time. Also a pressure washer. When I installed my SBC that is what I used. Cleaned the frame and all other pieces very well.

A little update. pics of the frame after my 1st. coat of rust bullet. my front axle ready to be torn down and have it cut and turned. and one of the disaster that is my garage, time to clean and organize again.

Wish I was smart enough and brave enough to do this....but I will follow your thread! Have fun and good luck!

you got me mixed up with someone else. if I was smart I would have been happy with the way it was but once I started tearing into it I couldn't just stop somewhere it was always well I am this far might as well go a little farther. I really don't no jack about what I am doing. I just hang out here and learn as much as possible from people that really know what they are doing. But I got to say it is fun.
