These provide at least minimum specification and the Griffin Radiator in/out line up pretty well depending on mounting.

This setup is 24" tall (from mounting nuts on IC to rad. cap).

I ended up modifying the cross member on the frame to get it to fit (dropped ~1.5") on my 60. I don't know where I went wrong with the height measurement initially.


There are two SPAL fans (also Summit) a 12" and a 10" set diagonally across the cooling surfaces and they fit corner to corner perfectly.

Well I have all the fuel lines ran and the exhaust finished, starting on the wiring then I bought in a Fj45 . and kinda got sidetracked on that one. Lol.

Adds more to the story. Carry on. Love detours. I wanted to start with a HJ60 frame swap. Bought a barn, a 67 Mustang project to do with my son, then a hj45 to work with my other son. A month ago a 40 for my wife to DD. Working on all simultaneously. Yikes

I'm baaaack.
It's been a while, but I'm ready to resume the work. Got the A/C compressor last week and the driveshaft today. The gov just issued a stay at home order for AZ. This week is going to be warm and perfect for working in the garage.
I just installed the driveshaft to make certain it fits and it does! Next is to weld in the motor mounts, remove the engine again to work on the firewall. Need to paint the inner fenders and firewall, and measure for a steering column.

I've been busy on the project, but mostly small stuff. Repaired a bad spot in the rear harness and rewrapped. Installed the steering column so I could mockup the steering shaft and cut to size. Sanding the inside of the fenders to prep for paint.

I started cleaning the transfer case of 50 year old oil that had turned into asphalt. I tried Simple Green, Purple Power, a foam cannon on the pressure washer and nothing seemed to do much. I found a partial bottle of Goo Gone Oven & Grill Cleaner. This stuff works! It took off about 85%, or more, of the crud. Unfortunately, it was so low it was hard to keep spraying so I resorted to a dropper. Of course, since it works, I can't find any more around here. The only place that has any in stock is a Lowes 40 miles away.
I found a good way to get into the nooks and crannies. I used an aluminum filler rod. You can beat on the end with a hammer to make a chisel/screwdriver style point or a sharp point. You can bend it any way you need and it doesn't scratch the case.

Boy, this steering column is turning into a major operation.

The first firewall support I made, turned out OK but the angle was off a little and I couldn't raise the column up to where it should be. Trying to hold the top of the column with one hand, the bottom with another while trying to find the angle of the dangle made for errors.

So, firewall column support 2.0 begins. I used 2.5" SS tubing instead of the 2.25" of the first one for more wiggle room. The welds looked terrible. The foot pedal on my tig welder sucks, so I ordered an SSC Controls foot pedal. Meanwhile, I thought I could save ver. 2.0 by grinding the welds down. Well, the compressor won't shut down, have to order a new pressure switch.

Ver. 3.0. Tighten up the column in the new dash support mount, and I can't get the column centered at the firewall for some reason. The new dash support mount for the 2" column needs to go to the right more, but it's at the end of the left slot. No problem, I'll just mill the slot longer. (This turned out to be the easiest part of the operation). Installed the modified dash support. Guess what? It still won't go far enough right. The brake pedal support bracket isn't centered on the dash opening. With the tiny 1.5" stock column it worked fine. Have to use a cutoff wheel and body saw to trim it.

And that's where I stopped for the day.

So you are fabricating your own steering column? This will be interesting to see. I was thinking about going with an ididit column whenever I got around to starting my project but if yours turns out good maybe I would also custom fabricate one.
Have any pictures of the column setup/situation you got going? I'm not completely understanding how you are using the dash support mount with the bigger 2.5" tube.

or maybe I am not understanding this whole post and the 2.5" SS tube is the firewall mount? some pictures might help

Flaming River column. The 2.5" is for the firewall mount, but for this last version I went back to 2.25".

Now I need to spend a couple of days practicing with the tig welder.

Cleaned and painted the transmission and transfer case. Now I'm going to wrap it and put it somewhere. Hope I'll be able to find it when I need it!
Started prepping the inner fenders for paint.

The passenger fender looked like a battery had leaked a long time ago, so I started sanding it. After a long time sanding and not making the progress I thought I should, I had one of those moments. Why not use my sandblaster, duh! So much easier.
