thanks

Todd if they haven't put it back in yet get them to wrap something around the wire harness where it runs beside the EGR pipe. Heck of a lot easier to do it now. Than later.

I will def do that!!

hey

how much does that run from the dealer..

Well I can say that Upstate Cruiser members get 25% off and the rest is expensive! :bang:

I want some details on your suspension. What shocks and springs are you running? They look like the Frankies stuff. Are you content with that combo?

Karl

Yes this is the FOR lift... Ive known Frankie a long time. When it was time for the 80 to be lifted I was dead set on FOR. Great lift, I will say it rides like a dream and offroad flexes really well. Caster correction plates are the way to go... to me... instead of bushings.. Frankie can tell u the specifics on the shocks, I believe they are Eldebrock. Springs are FRANKIE springs!!

Looks like your PHH still has the factory cotter-pin style clamp on it. Post #8 second pic.. Did they change out all the rubber hoses while the engine was out???

Rubber was replaced about 30,000 miles ago.....

Bro

lets def stay in touch and compare the two!!... Hope your install goes well.

I got a bit carried away and pulled the the exhaust manifiolds, intake manifolds and airbox to have the aluminum ceramic coated.
Airbox was powdered black on top to keep the stock appearance.

This should keep the intake air temp cooler than without. How much, I don't know but I'll post up when I get it installed Thursday. I do know that when wheeling the intake air temp skyrockets up to 150-160F range.

Combine that with my new snorkel & hood vents and that ought to keep it cooler.

Here's a few pics.

1) I am interested in the performance gains hp and torque. Also, do you see any gas mileage difference?
2)What are the best target PM items to replace when putting the SC on? This might be covered in the original post, but was not sure if this was a all inclusive list.

1) I wish I could tell you now but it still isn't installed yet. I will post up my findings when I get them though.

2) I was told by 80 owners that have done the SC in the past that before you put a SC on a higher mileage engine make sure to replace; the HG (if original) or unsure when/if it was ever done, compression check, replace fuel filter, fuel injector cleaning, flush cooling system & replace thermostat, blue or black hub fan clutch, replace any leaky oil seals and ensure that your transmission is up for the additional performance with a flush of fluid an cleaning the filter. Since I was already "in there", I also choose to replace the fuel pressure regulator, vacuum hoses that weren't affected by SC install. PHH on the driver side was also replaced on the driver side (newer but compressed from clamp hose and didn't want to use them again)
I also had intake plenums dipped to remove carbon and aluminum ceramic coated along with the exhaust manifolds and the stock airbox. The airbox was then powder coated black on top of the aluminum. These last few items were personal choice and not recommended by anyone in the cruiser world i.e Mud but the folks that do alot of NASCAR work here in the area recommended the coatings to keep the underhood heatdown and keep the intake air colder.

X2 - damn shame to have the engine out and not do the PHH.

That's exactly the info I asked for in #2. Now I can start justifying in my mind. LMAO
I have a local cruiser shop quote 7 hrs labor to install the SC, but I know all that other $hit is not included, but it may help to get my 97 w/ 160K miles all primed up for another 100K miles fresh with the SC (hell yeah). 72'aFJ40 pics are making me drool on the floor. It might be interfering with my work progress bc I pay way too much attention to this website during the day LOL

Sam, I can't remember if you told me or not, but what are those vents off of??

They are off a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L Limited, like the one that I used to have. The Jeep white paint is a pretty close match to the 80 too. Saves me from having to paint them.

They have trays for underneath that I trimmed to fit but I will only install those for winter.

They let out alot of heat from the tightly stuffed 360 cu. in. in the Jeep. I'm sure they will do the same on the 80.

Here's a pic of the vent trays mounted for winter, the summer mounts and a close up of the six holes drilled for mounting.

Anyone who does this in the future, don't bother with drilling holes for the two little alignment tabs on the vents. Just break them off if they don't snap off on their own as they are very fragile.

Use a step drill on both sides and use rubber grommets.

those intakes and manifolds look great if you don't mind me asking how much did that cost to get coated?
