The Ruby Mtns look gorgeous Danny! I was in Vegas this past weekend. Some day I want to get my '78 out into some of the Mtns around Vegas. Maybe of few of us could meet up in your neck of the woods.

Thanks Tom!!

Chester and I search for solitude... but, anything is possible.

Still in the Ruby Mountains... Dianna, Chester and I hiked 7 miles this morning, from 7600' at our campsite, to 8900' at the top. It was easier coming downhill :meh:

It was even prettier up top too!!

Love those pics Danny. I really like the first one, and the fourth one of the creek coming down the hillside is one I keep coming back to also. Now this is a subjective question, but is that 10 second water? As in, how long can you hold your bare foot in the water. In the Cascades a creek like that might not even make 10 second water, as in COLD. It's been many years since I tried it, but one memorable time was on a September deer hunt, and I just had to try out the creek. My feet were hot and tired from all the hiking (not much deer hunting happening), and the water was almost too cold.

Envious... you having continuous access to places that look like every great western I ever saw!

How is Chester doing without his sidekick?

He's lonely at times, but is handling it well.

I'd call it 8 second water... even Chester gets out fast.

The lake was different, this morning... Chester found the Dollar Lakes very comfortable this morning!!

Life is great!!

Again, love those pics. That area sure looks like my kind of country. The trail into Pamelia Lake follows a creek similar to the one in the first pic, except it's all under tall timber. Your next two pics reminds me of Hunts Lake and Hanks Lake, on the Skyline Trail above Pamelia Lake. Both Hunts and Hanks have the rock hillside and rock scree above the lake, just like your pics. I sure miss being able to do all the hiking like I used to. My wife and I used to hike, but she definitely can no longer hike. I can still do some hiking, but I'm definitely slow, possibly due to injuries.

Keep posting the pics, of 44 and the places you and Chester go together, and the places you hike to. I may not be able to do as much hiking as I used to, but you make it possible for me to see many places I may never get to see in person.

Well... as the FUN trip nears an end, I feel an air of burgeoning complacency on the part of all three of us..,". especially when I see that Vegas is currently 105*. :frown:

But, we had a wonderful time!!

Yesterday morning, a smoke jumper BASE jumped off the highest point (bright sunny point) in this picture... about 1000' above the campground... and landed in the campground... I didn't have a camera, with no cell service, what's the point of carrying my iPhone...

Anyway, this guy climbs this mountain periodically, camps on top and jumps in the early morning hours.

Home tomorrow... Echo Canyon tonight.

I haven't seen a fly rod in your hand in any of those pics Danny!

I haven't seen a fly rod in your hand in any of those pics Danny!

I haven't waded in two years, Ryan. I kicked and paddled my pontoon once (to see how my back reacted... it was fine) and caught several RBs on a fly rod.

But, the arthritis, in my hands makes tying on flies cumbersome, at best.

But, I notice, the less I wrench and drive, the better my hands are...

So, my plan is to drive somewhere... rest a couple of days, soak my hands in hot water, with Epsom salts and go fishing... just haven't gotten there yet... but, I do have a valid license...

I really should have taken my fly rod and chest pack when we hiked to Lamoille Lake... I could have flipped a few flies up there... but didn't.

I SHALL overcome!!

You don't have to toss flies for a long time, slow and easy will catch fish. Crap, you don't even need to wade in most of the water you are hiking along.

They are loaded with greedy little trout that love to slay dry flies.

Its not the fly slinging... it's manipulating the tippit into the eyes and tying the knots... and now, a few days ago, I started seeing flashing lights and huge floaters in my clear (left) eye... Retina specialist said, "All good now... but, come back Oct 6th, we have to be sure the vitreous doesn't tear the retina"... so, I'm looking thru a spider-webbed window with my left eye and fly s*** (asteroid halosis) with my right eye.

I just have to get back into it... I couldn't fish at all the past couple of years, due to my back... but, that's fixed now and I need to become proactive again... I have too much money invested in gear to just let it all rot... and it's one of my favorite pastimes!!

I had planned to fish Conejos this past summer, but that damned assault trial scheduling screwed all that up... then the jerk finally pled out.

I want to take Chester and 44 back to the Lamoille... there are a lot of beaver ponds along Lamoille Creek and cutties and brookies in Lamoille Lake and the Dollar Lakes... no wading required... but, it'll start snowing up there before long... and, now I've gotta be here for the retina dr on Oct 6th.

So, I'll start practicing manipulating tippet into flies and tying nail and blood knots and work the kinks out of my old fingers... and I'll get out there somewhere before long.

Just keep those pictures coming, Ryan!!

Nice cutty I pulled from ankle deep water last weekend! He was maybe just over 12", maybe 13".

From a small mountain stream maybe 10 feet wide.

Ok, girls and boys... I hadn't driven 44 in about a month, so given the cold front (86), Chester and I made a round trip to Parump and back (150 miles)... She ran great to Parump and half way home.

Then, I noticed that, when I let off the accelerator, she would backfire through the tail pipe... But, oddly, the faster I drove, the better she ran.

I cruised most of the way home at 79mph and she ran great... I could have just as easily gone faster, but I hate driving her that fast... But, what a beast!!

She had so much power, at that speed, that I pulled over and popped the hood and checks to make sure I didn't have the carb on upside down.

I quickly checked everything I could think of and climbed back in... To find that, even though she idled fine and cruised at Mach 3, I had to pump the accelerator, to keep her from dying... She was slow to come up to speed... But, again, cruised very smoothly at Mach 3.

Every light, in town and getting into the garage, required pumping the accelerator.

She had been sitting for the last month... I'll, swap in new fuel filter elements and pull the plugs to see how they look.

Beyond that, I'm puzzled by her smooth idle and smooth high speed cruising... While, backfiring thru the tailpipe, when I let off of the accelerator and having little power, until she gets up to 40... after 40, I can barely keep here feet on the ground.

I'll do some research later, but if anyone can shed light on this, lay it on me!!

Hey Danny sorry to hear 44 is not running as she should. How long ago was the carb rebuilt? I do know that are current ethanol based gas is s*** and is not good for long at all, but strange the way it is acting.........

Not long... Mark rebuilt it a couple hundred miles ago.

What are the chances you have a spark advance issue? If that were my mustang, I'd look first at my vacuum line to the advance, then the advance module itself. Also look at your accel pump.

Timing is one of the things I plan to check. I thought maybe the fussy had moved, but I can't budge it... it's locked down tight.

I went out there for about 20 mins, tonight, and went over the vacuum lines. The line to the vac advance is fine.

But, I have a second VSV on the passenger fender, to use in raising the venting of the dissy. I found the line that pulls vacuum from that VSV had come off... massive vacuum leak

It was glaringly obvious, but I didn't see it, when I stopped on the shoulder of the highway.

Thanks for the ideas, Drew... your ideas validated my thought process and melded with my find.

I think it's fine now... but, I only ran it for a few minutes and it was fine... but, I'll need to get it to op temp and drive it on the highway, to be sure.

When you coming home, son?
