Ok, girls and boys... I hadn't driven 44 in about a month, so given the cold front (86), Chester and I made a round trip to Parump and back (150 miles)... She ran great to Parump and half way home.
Then, I noticed that, when I let off the accelerator, she would backfire through the tail pipe... But, oddly, the faster I drove, the better she ran.
I cruised most of the way home at 79mph and she ran great... I could have just as easily gone faster, but I hate driving her that fast... But, what a beast!!
She had so much power, at that speed, that I pulled over and popped the hood and checks to make sure I didn't have the carb on upside down.
I quickly checked everything I could think of and climbed back in... To find that, even though she idled fine and cruised at Mach 3, I had to pump the accelerator, to keep her from dying... She was slow to come up to speed... But, again, cruised very smoothly at Mach 3.
Every light, in town and getting into the garage, required pumping the accelerator.
She had been sitting for the last month... I'll, swap in new fuel filter elements and pull the plugs to see how they look.
Beyond that, I'm puzzled by her smooth idle and smooth high speed cruising... While, backfiring thru the tailpipe, when I let off of the accelerator and having little power, until she gets up to 40... after 40, I can barely keep here feet on the ground.
I'll do some research later, but if anyone can shed light on this, lay it on me!!
