That looks miserable. Hope you get a good nights sleep.

Stay warm up there Danny, are you tent camping or somehow sleeping in 44? Yes wind all over, friends down low in Phoenix had it pretty bad as well. Supposed to rain here today and 48 degrees at 5400 ft in Prescott Valley. Incidentally if you are sleeping in your rig, how do you do that? I am 6 feet tall, don't know how I would manage in mine. Passenger seat removal?

We slept snug as a bug in a rug!!

The snow melted off down here, at 5500' but the mountains are white... it's bloody cold outside, with howling winds.

Chester's happy!!

Thanks Tom!!

I'm 5'6" - I bought the Dan-sized 40. I remove the PS seat back (leave it at home) and sleep like a king!!

Very cool!!! And great pictures as well my friend;)

@tls3601 & @TwelveGravity

Thanks Guys!!

The wind kicked back up and more snow flurries... so, we came home, after taking a drive to the other side of this part of the Sheep Range... to the Joe May Canyon and Black Gate Canyon trailhead... it's a 14 mile drive, but about 3 miles, as the raven flies... big difference from where we slept... about the same altitude.

Chester had a blast, but us already asleep on our bed.

Great pic of 44 and the snow covered Mtns in the background!!!!! Quite an adventure Danny. Thanks for sharing those most excellent pics. I do bet it will feel good for you to be home tonight though:cheers:

Danny,
I was just thinking about the fact that you removed the heater in 44. Regret it now?

Funny you should ask... I was thinking about that decision last night... I can honestly say, I don't regret it. Even as cold as it was last last night, I would have had to run 44 up to temp and then keep idling to warm us up... it was safer and easier to crawl into my sleeping bag and drag 2 heavy blankets over me - then Chester (who was wearing a heavy coat) cuddled up to me and I drug a 3rd blanket over us.

We stayed toasty all night... except when I stepped out, into a blizzard, to piss into the wind.

Driving today, the engine kept us nice and warm... so, I definitely don't regret removing my heaters.

Of course, if I had to commute to a job, in really cold weather, i would have never removed them.... but, for my use, I'd rather have the space than the heaters.

pics from my camera.

Middle of the picture is the pour-over that blocked Chester and I last time out... 20' vertical drop, into a 30' deep bowl... total of 50' drop - mid-pic, 1' from the left side, you can see the ski-tracks made by my boots, after we climbed to a lower hill summit and worked our way back down.

A nice cave (zoomed in), above the pour-over... not sure I could get to it... but, wouldn't try by myself anyway.

44, from a mountain, 2 miles away... she's parked where we camped in the blizzard. We hiked this Thurs morning and lived through the ~65 mph dust storm Thurs afternoon and the blizzard and freezing cold Thursday night... quite an adventure for a single 24 hour period!!

Chester loves hunting lizards!! It was too cool for snakes to be active, so I let him hunt his lizards.

The alligator is easier to see, with snowy highlights.

Notice 44's left front turn signal is hanging a bit... i bought these aftermarket lights about a year ago... i just noticed BOTH lights have broken metal flanges... both broke in the same place... I'll post pictures, to show what happened, when I pull them off of 44.

I have no idea how they broke... except, maybe, from the constant bouncing . I never hit anything... no branches to brush against... just cheap, defective lights, I guess.

Yes Danny, the cave is visible even in the snow. Perhaps even more so.
Tom @tls3601 fwiw, it is 7' from the glovebox door to the rear door panel. I have a platform in my '68 and often use it for sleeping when I take it out.

@65swb45 and Danny, I like the idea of being able to do that for solo trips. Thanks for sharing that Mark

Always love the updates, the solitude of all of this looks very calming.Especially with a friend who doesn't talk.

The best part of every adventure is sharing the solitude and beauty of nature with a friend who loves it as much as you!!

Chester has now decided he prefers to sleep in 44, in the garage... Unless I'm doing something fun or that involves food...

Thanks for the kind words!!

Love those pics of the snow. Makes me wish I was in central or eastern Oregon somewhere. Many times my uncle and I spent several days at a time in mid October either up in the Cascade Mountains, or just a little bit further east in the high desert of Central Oregon during elk hunts, often with a little bit of snow on the ground. We usually slept in a small, non cabover, camper on the back of his pickup, with little to no heat. Many good memories of those times. Of course my uncle has been gone now for close to twenty years, so memories tend to forget the not so comfortable and colder times.

My first November elk hunt in eastern Oregon (not central Oregon, between John Day and Seneca) had three of us sleeping in a 9 x 9 nylon tent. Every morning for that week the temps were from 0* to 4* when we woke up (no heat), and I don't think it ever got above 32* all week. Consequently, your sleeping quarters in 44 look and sound very warm and cozy there.

Thanks Don!!

It's good to have memories, may we never lose them.

Saw that Indian Springs got about 1-1/3 inches of rain out of that last storm. Here in the mountains of northern New Mexico we got about 3-1/2 inches of snow (~1/3 inch of water equivalent).

BTW, have you ever taken the relatively short hike up to Sky Arch south of US 95, opposite the Corn Creek Road turnoff? If you look carefully driving north on US 95 just before the turnoff it's visible to your left, on the horizon, on one of the two higher summits (the one on the left). The easiest access is from the road opposite the Corn Creek Road (Lucky Strike Canyon), at the substation. About where the white square is on the topo map:
