Lol at all this old dude stuff, who has one of the best 40 series threads on Mud!Keep it up old timer.I check in to see the things I am jealous of both scenery and good times.

Why thank you, younger... I 'preciate your kind words and am happy that our good times and the gorgeous, diverse Nevada landscape brings out those covetous feelings in those of you who are forced to endure so much green and so many trees!!

Seriously, having lived, most recently, in the Austin, TX area for a quarter century, I hated the almost total lack of public land, in Texas.

When Dianna said she would like to live near her youngest sister (after 40 years apart) and our eldest daughter (who's lived in Vegas for 20+ years), I told her I owed her a move. So, we moved out here and now I have one of the largest playgrounds I could ever imagine!!

I love the diversity of the flora, the extreme diversity of the strata... I simply love this land and the access to, as much as, 13k' of altitude in a matter of 1-2 hours... I love exploring and hiking drainages and ridge lines (just careful to not try anything too extreme) and I love sharing the photos!!

Keep coming back... there will be more... but, I think our next trip will be a Southern Utah loop... a week long trip in the Tundra, with our Casita Travel Trailer. Dianna says she wants to take a trip and she insists on living in luxury, in our 17' trailer... sleeping in 44 or even in a tent is beneath her.

I am having problems with the pads on my hands.after using a wrench or ratchet my hands hurt especially if I have to hit the ratchet with my palm.its like I have lost fat in the palms of my hands.

But the most pressing Issue is my knees.the right knee hurts from time to time but the left one is always hurting.i was a very rambunctious kid and all my injuries are coming back to hunt me.

All those injuries are potential arthritis sites... :bang:

Since you have thin palms, quit hitting the ratchet with your hands... try using a mallet...

I recall my Mother-in-Law tying a piece of string around her leg, just above the knee... just tight enough to keep it from falling down (the string, not the knee). She swore it made her knee pain disappear completely. I've never tried it and only just remembered it... give it a try... just plain old twine. Be sure you report back though!!

But, enough about aches and pains... what about the burning and itching sensation of hemorrhoids?!? :hmm:

Technically, I'm fine in that area!!

remember, it's the same old dudes that told you "you're young, you'll bounce right back".... lyin' bastards. Still, I need to be nice to them - they knew God when he was just a kid.

Yep. I remember when Christ was a Corporal. I used to build 'carrying' crosses, but couldn't make a decent living. That was a hell of a flood!!

Great pics Danny!

Another Kodak moment with my bud and daBoise!!

Frame it!

20 lbs... For six months after my spinal fusion I was only allowed to lift 5 lbs. It's hard to care for a family, and a black lab when you're limited to 5 lbs... Even harder to mod a 40 when the surgery to fix my hands meant no lifting for 6 months then a year worth of physio to make the muscles work again... Not looking promising, I'm hoping I can do half what I see you're doing at your age when I get there in twenty or so years.

Keep the pics coming... I wish I was closer, I'd drop in to visit. :D

I'm just hoping to get power steering in while my arms are working well enough to do it... Before they start to get weak again.

Any time!!

Thanks and I hope you can too!!

The older I get, the stronger the sense of urgency to just go do it, regardless of the pain. I find that I actually feel better (most of the time) when I'm out there than I do when I'm stuck at home.

Post surgery things work quite well. Building makes me feel better... Just need the time and energy... I'm not 20 anymore.

Some days I wish my to do list was shorter for the 40... Always the case.

The more effort you can put into it, the more energy you will ultimately have... But, the older you get, the harder it is to 'start over' all the time.

Don't give up!! Just remember how much fun it is!!

Eyes aren't repairable , only option is transplants or if they figure out how to grow new ones - mine are severely elongated to the point of blind spots that are starting to overlap . Some days it's worse than others , biggest complaint is the floaters obscuring what I'm trying to focus upon . Migraines from this really suck , but if nothing else I get time to relax since there isn't much choice . I'm trying to head in a different career direction as we speak , have put in a few applications and I hope my age/health doesn't screw me on an opportunity to get to something lighter in load but with decent pay grades/benefits . Our Pension Fund , like so many others took a huge hit during the crash since the Fund managers thought it was fine to gamble on derivatives and other risky markets . We got screwed and they still got paid , in my book it's criminal . I could have retired and went to part time work in a lesser demand job here in a couple years - now it's been pushed to 8 more years , nice they can move the goal post on us ....

Like others here , I'm not dead yet and not interested in giving up - I still go to work when the work is there and plow through the day with a blind Irish determination that still works for me well enough . I still make parts , do repair work here when there's no work and take on a lot more than I probably should . Just turned the old neighbor gal we've known forever fixing the exhaust on her Grand Prix - it's bottom side is rusted badly and she can't afford a real car shop , so I referred her to the old welder next door . He's older than I am by nearly 10yrs but is one of those lucky ones that has escaped any real injury over the years and has excellent health despite his profession . He's like a wizard around here for fixing farm machinery - most of what he gets to fix should have been scrapped at least 20yrs ago , but he always makes it work . Yesterday , getting some aluminum ordered through him and watched a short bit while he welded a patch into an old Cocksutt's engine block from it's owner not using antifreeze last winter - 5" square patch to fix the hole from the blow out in the cast iron . Beautiful repair , I've never had the skill level he has on cast parts and pretty jealous .

I did take the Cruiser to work earlier this week , as well as replaced two of the universal exhaust hangers that broke from our crappy roads that try to beat me and the old AntiChrist to death around here . Only saving grace , the way I see it - at least I can get some of my tax money back in wages repairing our junk infrastructure ....there's a thought for the day .

It's unfortunate that guys like your neighbor are a dying breed. This throw away society isn't encouraging any skill or problem solving. Mechanics have become part replacement specialists, and if there are any real problems, the vehicle gets scrapped... Because at $125+ an hour + parts, it's not worthwhile.

Sarge, I hope employers can see your skills and value. Best of luck in finding a new career path... Been there a few times... May be there again.

Living in a small townhouse, in a small HOA controlled subdivision, means we have to rent storage... Both a room and a slot in which to park our travel trailer.

I just returned from making trailer repairs and organizing the storage room... While there, I was talking to the manager.

He and his wife are ex-long haul truck drivers. They live in a company supplied apartment, above the storage office. They have a two-car garage and I think their apartment is as big as our 1200 sq ft townhouse.

He manages the complex, his wife does all the computer work (new renters, billing, etc.)... This is a company called "Storage West" and a large complex. He only does minor cleanup, etc.... Anything large is contracted out and paid for by the company.

He told me that the wages and benefits are better than any job they've ever had and they have no problem keeping everything rented.

I don't know where any of you live, or whether this is of interest to anyone... But, were I looking for what I consider an "easy" (not physically demanding) job, I would check into "live-in, couples, managing storage complexes".

Food for thought...

Edit: I want to be sure this is seen by @Weber Sarge, @bikersmurf, @decavo and anyone else who may be looking for an opportunity like this...

"live-in, couples, managing storage complexes". - Google Search
