That floor insulation is probably good idea for your climate...It would just take PITA to remove if you want to go back to stock...I am planning to wrap the exhaust under the driver floor with that fiberglas Kevlar wrap they are selling in Autozone for wrapping exhaust headers. It shoud lower the temperature some..I am surprised that your 78 gas tank opening got 90 degree sides but my 77 has 45 degree sloped sides. That would explain slightly bigger fuel amount in specs for 78..I also put the reflective aluminum membrane with felt on my floor and will see if there will not be a problem with the moisture..Time will show.I recently removed my gas tank too and it has 2 stripes of rubber tape glued on tank..for 3 years the space under the tank is in excellent shape..I have to tell that I like your thread and all the adventures you are doing in your 40...The pictures of the landscape around LV are fantastic..Specially if there is 40 in it...Good job :-) Mike

Thanks Mike!

We moved out here from the Austin area in 2012... there's a "little" more public land here than in TX.

44 will never go back to stock in my lifetime... its okay if someone else has a pita removing that insulation - my tank nest sides are about 80* - 16.5 gal tank. Ergo, I added the 22 gal aux tank under the back.

I'd be very careful wrapping the exhaust in TX, given the rain and humidity... you could end up rusting out your exhaust...

That's a good point with rusting....I covered my exhaust with ceramic paint and wanted to wrap it from headers to about that step behind the back seats...I live in N part of TX,but it is still humid here so I might take it in consideration..Yeah basically NO public land in TX at all...maybe 1%...Everywhere I go is neither ranch gate or No tresp.sign...Even NC got a lot of public land...I was in LV last year(2014) passing through to Death valley an CA..Past Kingman,AZ towards LV There is a sweet ghostown Chloride with rock paintings...road there was horrible but it was worth it...I got pulled over after I left and lady Cop was nice.I was driving left and right so she thought i was drunk...LOng way to LV after that...You driving in this direction with your 40 sometimes?

Aw Mike!!

Danny, I knew you'd pick up on that sooner or later.

Not yet... More east-central NV - less people - less traffic

If you want to wrap a header - I'd suggest sending it in for Jet-Hot coating first or a proper ceramic coat . The heating/cooling cycle on those metal pipes draws moisture like crazy and header wrap just makes it worse as it will trap that moisture . Better route is to shield the floor and firewall from the outside with heat resistant ceramic barriers like Lizard Skin or similar .

Danny, good job..It will serve its purpose...I wonder why Toyota didn't do this lining at all(special order)-saving money?I guess..If I wouldn't have such a good looking fine sprayed liner in mine I would probably to the same thing...Putting that transmission hump back was PITA!!good luck with that :-) How does it stick-pretty well? Are you thinking to also line inside of your doors?I just sprayed inside of mine with Noxudol 300..Pretty good stuff..They also make 700-spray for inside cavity-waxy stuff.Made in Sweeden. Also sprayed left ambulance doors inside ...But you don't need all that-LV weather is paradise(just not in the summer)

Nah, no insulation for doors... I'm trying to cut down on heat from the engine and exhaust. I seldom drive with the windows up... So, cutting noise isn't gonna happen... Plus I always wear headphones and have an audio book playing.

It sticks too well, if you think you may want to remove it some day... I won't remove it  I don't know how well it would stick without using my heat gun and rubbing it down with a cloth.

In Europe we use similar thing to insulate concrete slabs against moisture and maybe Radon..heat it with the gas burner and lay it down..here in US they only use 6 mil plastic-I loughed first time I seen it...It will be cheaper to buy a new tub instead of hiring somebody to remove it :-)

I think it will be easier to remove than you think... After it has aged a bit, a heat gun and a sharp scraper will likely peel it off.... But not by me.

Nothing "on" it... some "to" it ;)

T-Case leak turned out to be the top cover bolts not tight the (almost) two years I've had it... they were too short to tighten. Added a t-case-saver, new gasket and seal from @OrangeFJ40 and 35mm bolts and all is good. No damage to the tcase... lucky I didn't get a lot of sand in it.

Carbon fibered my overheard cabinet and insulated the floor and firewall and sent the rear harness connectors to @Coolerman for a new harness, with "extras". Hope to have it back soon so I can get the hump, gas tank, seats, mat and hand throttle back in before I forget where they go.

That's all I recall beyond the rats and other "tech" stuff.:D

Finished insulating the rest of the tub (except for the wheel wells, I doubt I will insulate them).

Can't do much more until my rear harness arrives and I get it hooked up.

Cleaned and treated and re-laid the rear mat

Excellent work Danny! I love the way you tackle these remedial projects unafraid and confident!

...and a kewl cab!!

I still haven't decided whether I want to carbon fiber the cap ceiling... I'll never go to the trouble of installing a headliner, but I may paint the ceiling... I also have carbon fiber, if I decide to install it... Hmm...

Anyway, I blackened any wood that showed... Here's my finished overhead cabinet... Well, I may swap out the handle... This is one I already had...
