EDIT: 3/30/2021- This main / starting post will be used to announce the highlights as I progress. I have a spreadsheet with part numbers/cost etc so I will not muddy the thread with in-depth details. Just post and I can try to dig up what I have.

My thread to document my build. I chose this vehicle over a newer Toyota Sequoia because its 4WD and also built like a tank. I was drawn to this truck as It seats 7-8 and can tow around 5500 pounds. I do not foresee towing ever unless it is very small.

I am going to try keep these sections brief and hyperlink to the applicable threads. Photos from 3-2012 to 7-2012 are stored in this media library.
  • 3/26/2012 - I bought my 1994 Land Cruiser 142k miles from 1st owner for (The A/C was shot, so I was able to negotiate.) I got the A/C fixed with a new compressor and evaporator

That is my corvette to the right of my truck.

  • 4/15/2012 - Tune-Up Time
With the summer approaching, I did this for peace of mind as I do with with any vehicle purchase. The valve cover, along with other rubber gaskets on the valve cover were replaced.

very nice! you are doin a great job. i recently purchased mine and it is very similar to yours (same color too) i have to do my valve cover gasket and some other stuff like cap and roter. and i have to figure out how to install my 3rd row seats. i cant get those things to slide in its a PITA

Nice! Nice clean looking engine there. Did you clean it up or is that how you got it?

Get rid of the K&N filter. It's worse than OEM.

And you need more interior shots - that looks like one clean 80!

PS: There's a BIG difference between a Sequoia and an 80. I've owned both, and although I liked the Sequoia, I LOVE my 80...

BlackLS1 - thanks a lot, yea they say to go genuine toyota , I think there is a manual on how to remove/install the 3rd row.

Cruiser Orlando - I think i will go to a OEM paper style filter, keep it off-road ready ! but I will def post some interior pics when I get into the garage today!

The filter thing isn't about onroad/offroad. Search on mud for K&N and you'll see what I mean - I dont' want to fill your build thread with a bunch of comments on it, however ;)

Enjoy the build - you've got a lot done (even some that I need to do on mine!)

When I got my 1997 Camry a year ago, she had EGR problems, replaced the EGR valve, modulator and VSV sensor. Problem solved.

After doing the tune up on the Cruiser, test drove 30 miles, I get the CEL lights, pulled the battery and cleared the code, it came again! jumped the pins for 1994 and got code 71.

Needless to say I'm pretty upset after tearing apart the upper and having to redo it all over again for the EGR non sense. Back to the garage the cruiser goes. Smh

After

As you can see the switch setup is [ rear defrost , center diff lock , ECT , and then the power antennae ]

I want all the tractiong related ones to be clustered near by each other

is there any screws holding the face plate with switches on? im trying to remove the cluster for the temp guage mod.

Four IIRC. Two you probably found in the cig tray, the other two are "up and under" on the left and right side of the steering wheel. Get down by the pedals and look up at the dash cluster, you should see them.

yes and not much force is needed, if u feel your applying more, check and be gentle, these cruisers are old and the plastics from heat/weather have become brittle :(

I was tightening a screw near the ash tray, about 40% of the surrounding crumbled.

Just spent $420 for parts

Alternator, VSV modulator and VSV solenoid

Thanks Dave at Toyota of new Mexico

EDIT 3/30/2021:
The alternator failed because I sprayed engine degreaser which got onto it and messed it up. Lesson learned back when this happened. I did not have time to update the reason why it failed so here it is.

Just got the VSV out and modulator, me and my mechanic went without removing the throttle body, he used long needle nose pliers, screwdrivers and extensions.

Took a buddy of mine advice and did a drain and fill for 5 quarts of transmission fluid

Put 8 quarts of full synthetic oil, and replaced as many of vacuum lines as I could do myself from the top spent $200 in labor to have the alternator and sensors put in

Good note, I got a new replacement battery from wal Mart, I will get a batter battery but its good for now and free, I'll be back

SWCruiser sold me my auxiliary fuel tank kit
Akella supplied the auxiliary fuel tank and an OEM Toyota hand throttle

Next on the list is to get George ECU which will happen on Friday
Collecting write ups and reading up for now
