I'm new and I hope this is the correct forum if not please tell me admin. I have my very first Toyota pickup 1987 4 cylinder 32 inch tires and I have a few questions.
First there is a button on the console that says power and reg in the upper right corner what exactly is that?
Second any recommendations on what all I should do to it? The engine is freshly rebuilt and runs perfect.
Third my gauge cluster doesn't light up would it be the summer switch?
Fourth what oil should I use? High mileage?
Fifth and final where is a good place other than pull a part to get parts?
Thanks guys!

Had an 86, I loved that truck! What do you want to do with it or use it for. That will dictate what your mods will be. The rig will be down on power with the 32s, you may want to re-gear...

Well it's my daily driver so just a few performance upgrades. It already has been re geared for the tires and for off road use. I have cabin property in the family that requires 4wd to get there. I would like to get an intake for sure and maybe open the exhaust a bit. Just anything to make it run better.

Also the fuel float is stuck is that a project I can tackle on my own or am I better off getting it fixed? Also where can I get a good brush guard and a rear bumper?

Hey bud, glad you took my suggestion and joined Mud. I think the forum you'll find to be home is here:

They can probably answer your question on the button. Not sure since all mine has is knobs ;)

I'm partial to all things Mobil 1. They seem to have the best quality going these days. I wouldn't worry too much about going synthetic. Just go with the viscosity it calls for.

The gauge light issue is most likely a bulb since the others work. If they all go out then look towards the dimmer.

check LC Engineering, Trail Gear and Marlin for parts, they are great Toyota 22re resources, towards the high end expensive side but quality, I sourced a lot of my 85 Runner parts from Rock Auto as well

also what the other guys are saying try some of the message boards that are specific to your truck. lots of good tech info out there

Third my gauge cluster doesn't light up would it be the dummer switch?

Turn on your headlights. Walk around to the back of the truck. If the taillights are off you have popped the fuse.

I assume you are talking about something like the K&N. Don't waste your money. Unless you are just doing it to be cool.

A header into a 2.25" exhaust will wake your truck up.

I'm guessing you have an automatic tranny. The power button raises the shift points. It also burns more gas.

Fourth what oil should I use? High mileage?

Why would you want to run a high mileage oil in an engine that has been freshly rebuilt?

Good point but I was just thinking higher viscosity for an older engine. Thanks for all the responses I'm not getting anything in the other forum.

Alright friends this is now a build thread! Motor went so I tore it down all the way to the block. New crank and rod and main bearings just came in. I'm adding a crawler cam, pacesetter headers and exhaust, upgraded pistons, and an air intake!

Big day in the build! Got the new crank installed and everything put back together! I am waiting on the cam and that's it! Also that's my woman helping me!
