Made some more progress. My buddy Eric sanded down the whole frame while I was busy working (nice friend huh?) Then he painted it yesterday. It turned out awesome. Couldn't be happier. Now it's time to start working on the engine...

Your frame looks awesome. I hope mine comes out have that good.

Love the rear diff cover, I want one, you still looking for the th350 adapter, I know of a guy down the road from me with the AA kit for sale for 450 bucks, its normally alot more than that new, let me know if you want me to talk to him. -Matt

I was originally gonna go that way Matt but decided not to. Sticking with the SM465. Thanks

How did this work, do you still have the stock axles, what mods to drivelines were made. Did you have to move the engine forward for more room for th th400?

It came with my rig set-up that way.

But had a very interesting hodge-podge of a DIY front drive shaft, which I had to have replaced for about $500

Seems fine, but I haven't really tried out the twin sticks, as I mainly use it as a commuter car (I'm a poser.. I know..)

Did you sell the roof rack? I ask because I have the same looking one, and my buddy got it for me as a gift, and I also live in salem.

I sure did. Maybe late last year/beginning of this year. I remember the guy I sold it to said he was going to give it to his buddy. I forget his name. You guys work at Cascade Tire? Glad someone could put it to use!

If you still thinking about an auto you should check out a 700r4 for the overdrive gear it offers. The rig is looking awesome also.

I've heard those work great. I'm holding off for now and sticking with the SM465 but I'm sure down the road I'll be switching out to auto.

Update: Unfortunately, the guy that has been doing all the body work and paint isn't going to be able to finish up the 40. He's been too busy with work and life, etc, which I understand. Kinda bummed out but I figured it was getting tough for him since the tub was supposed to be back to me by the end of May.

He gave me an option for him to finish up all the body work and primer everything and return it to me. Or, the other option was to finish the body work and he can give me all the sandpaper and primer he has already purchased for it. Along with giving me back half of what I paid him up front.

I decided to go with the first option. I should be be getting back all the primered parts in a couple of weeks. From there we're going to line the inside and bottom of the tub and get it mounted back on the frame. Then, find someone who can do a good job painting it for a decent price.

Switching from a manual to an auto is expensive and a ton of work (I know from experience). If you are thinking of an auto in the near future than I would recommend you do it now while the body is off. It will be cheaper and easier. I went with a 700R4 myself. It was a good choice.

Good luck with your build!

Steve

Update:

The dude that was originally working on the 40 was a complete fail. He kept giving me the run around and couldn't finish it. There's another guy working on it now that does awesome work. He's starting fresh and fixing a lot of problems that the previous guy caused (ie - horrible welding, caked on filler covering up warped metal, incorrect paint preparation, etc)

I'll post some pics of his progress as he sends them my way.
