i just got a call from the wife of a guy that bought a HJ cruiser. he's driving it back to Salt Lake a broke down near Monroe, NM (Santa Rosa area). someone is getting him to Abq (i think). but he may need parts and help getting going again. i'll keep you posted on what he may need, and contact CDan to see if he can get parts at all for an H motor. he thinks it's the wrong oil for cold weather and may need an oil filter, but that's all i know.

i just wanted to give a heads up.

ok, he called me too. the dealer he bought it from changed the oil. it has been gradually having more problems with losing oil pressure. today, when started, the oil pressure spikes really high, then drops to 0. he thinks the oil filter is clogged and when the pressure builds, the bypass opens up losing pressure.
he is getting towed into Abq today, and will need help getting to where parts are to work on it tomorrow. if we can help him get around, and fix it, that would be good. i am off work tomorrow and can help. my 40 is on my trailer today, so i'll have to go home and unload in the am (about 10). i emailed CDan for a heads up on parts.

he's getting towed to a hotel (whatever he can find once he gets here). i have his cell #.

I think Dan would be the best person in terms of mechanical trouble shooting since most of us don't really deal with diesels very much.

That said, Dan might be on a trip and might not be back for a couple of days.

Didn't Dan post up recently about getting some filters?

he was home last night according to Sara. unless he left today.

Hello folks,
I am the guy who is having problems with my newly purchased HJ60. The oil pressure is dropping down to low, which, according to the FSM, can happen when the oil filter is plugged or when the wrong grade of oil is used. I suspect that the oil filter that is on it, is plugged, and probably not the right filter for my cruiser. I was going to have my cruiser towed to American Toyota, but it turned out to be too expensive. It would have been close to $1000, so now I am stuck in Santa Rosa. Tomorrow I will try the local Napa and Car Quest, but they will probably have to order the filter from somewhere, which could take awhile. If any of you have any ideas, or could help me out in any way I would be beyond grateful! I would really like to be home for Christmas or sooner if possible. Please cell me at this number if you have any thoughts that would help me out.

Thanks,
Shaun

The correct filter part number for an HJ60 is 15601-68010. The closest dealer that shows one is in Poway California. There is only one other dealer in the US that shows stock and that one is in Carlsbad California.

The H motor was never sold by Toyota in this market and parts are almost nonexistant.

As far as oil goes, I would run Valvoline Premium Blue oil.

Here is a list of suitable oil filters for my 2h.

Toyota 15601-68010
Napa gold 1627
Wix 51627
Fleetguard LF 3399
Donaldson P 550707
Baldwin BT 221
Fram PH4707

What's on it now?

I am leaving on a trip tomorrow.

But I'll be driving into town early tomorrow to get my medical, and to stop by CDan (and Onur one way or another--you left your allen wrenches in the shop)

FWIW, the HJ-60 (has a 2H in it) uses a different filter than my HJ-45 (which has an H).

I also checked, and the 2LT-E uses a different filter too. VERY similar, but slightly different. So no luck there.

Not sure if it would work, or would be worth it, but you guys are more than welcome to snag parts off of my HJ-45 if they will work for you. The oil filter adapter from an H *might* bolt onto a 2H to get you home. I'll be heading out tomorrow, but my parents could certainly let you up to the truck to get parts off of it if it would help. I also *might* be back home on the evening of the 23rd. If you need: ring me up at 366-8662.

Dan (CruiserDan, not me :) ): you can't check Toyota Industrial parts can you? The H was sold in North America in forklifts.

After Toyota, I'd check with NAPA. I've had good luck getting the 1368 filter from them (which crosses to the also difficult-to-obtain filter for my 2LT-E). One time when I called they had 3 in stock in the main Albuquerque store. You'd be surprised what sort of ag equipment uses the same filters.

Are you shutting it off, or is the EDIC relay commanding the shutdown? Is it possible that the sending unit is bad? It sure does sound like a clogged filter, or a clog/loose junk near the pressure sending unit(s).

Another thought...

Mike on Central (near Juan Tabo) has at least one 2H powered troopy in his yard I think. He might be willing to pull a part, or might have some filters lying around. If I was him I would.

if Shaun can't find one in Santa Rosa, can someone that knows or at least has talked to the Mike above, call in the morning to see what he has and can offer?

EDIT--my schedule just got changed, so I've got to catch an 8AM flight tomorrow. I will be of no help trying to do much of anything, other than letting you all rob parts off the 45 if you need.

Onur--I'll try to drop the wrenches at the counter, but may not even have time for that.

I'm not a diesel expert, but if i can help to swing by and pick up what is needed if Shaun can't find it there, that is not a problem for me. Delivery to Santa Rosa is a different story, I will be heading north to Sante Fe this week for work. Maybe, if I can get out of work early I can help more, but who knows how my week will go with the out with the owner out to rest from surgery. Hope you make it back for Christmas!

I will do what I can today to help. I will likely start by talking to Shaun in Santa Rosa and see if he's been able to find anything in stock there. (Pilot) Dan's comment about ag parts leads me to belive that I may have luck finding a Napa filter (Napa Gold 1627, according to Shaun) out here at the Edgewood store. They had a filter for my diesel Kubota tractor a few weeks ago. If I find something, my Celica would make it to Santa Rosa quickly and cheaply to deliver.

For Shaun - if you want to check in, feel free. My home number is 505-281-9676 and cell is 505-238-7226.

P.S. Does anyone know a phone number or name of the business for "Mike on Central"? I'd be happy to contact him, but have no way of reaching him.

NAPA stocks ag and heavy equipment filters. I'll bet the store on 2nd street will have the Napa gold 1627 in stock. If not, there is a HINO dealer on Menaul that might have the Toyota filter. I can run by either store if needed to.

I spoke to stranded Shaun and he stated that the only NAPA that has this filter is on 4th street, ABQ. NAPA did a system wide search. But I'll call the autozone to see if they have the fram filter.

As of now, shawn william and I are coming up with a plan to take a filter and a truck/trailer down to stranded Shaun this morning. I'd like to get this rolling ASAP as there is a storm coming our way! More likely it'll be me who will drive Williams' truck/trailer to stranded Shaun. William has family commitments I'd imagine.

I'm confused about NAPA's information. I just spoke to the Edgewood NAPA store and they claimed that the closest NAPA filter is at a store in Denver, but that they could have it shipped somewhere by tomorrow morning. I'm with Ali - it sounds like the Fram availability would be the next thing to check.
