G'day All, Prepping the lower half of cabin for painting is a really quick and easy process. Just follow these simply steps:

1. Paint strip - pressure blast - blow dry with compressed air;
2. Paint strip - pressure blast - blow dry with compressed air;
3. Paint strip - pressure blast - blow dry with compressed air;
4. Paint strip - pressure blast - blow dry with compressed air (Left lung stops working);
5. Wash with hot soapy water and scourer - rinse - blow dry with compressed air;
6. Wipe down with phosphoric acid (watch finger tips corrode - Now only operating with one hand);
7. Wash with hot soapy water and scourer - rinse - blow dry with compressed air;
8. Start Wire wheeling - pick strands of wire out of face (Don't worry, I still have one good eye);
9. Start using stripping disc - less painful than wire wheeling;
10. Start scraping out old and cracked seam sealer.

Easy really.

Splendid :)

Not many would have the stones to go 'all the way' 'balls deep' 'back to bare' 'down to her undies'. Seriously - it takes a pretty good bit of discipline to hold true to the vision when all around you are disassembled pieces.

Down to her undies. Dude......poor old Mario has been publicly stripped down to the skeleton. No flesh, no sinew, no muscle, no tendons. Even his gristle gnawed away. Just bones.

Hate to increase your workload mate but I'd be slathering that thing in epoxy tonight, not in a few days.

Apparently, it's going to bucket down with rain tomorrow. Plus there are a few areas that still need to cleaned up. It's cold and damp here at the moment, but it doesn't seem to be flash rusting like panels do in summer. Strange really, must have something to do with humidity.

Love your work mate, your attention to detail and patience is inspiring.

If I left metal like that for more than a day up here in summer I would have a ton of surface rust, it’s had me pondering how best to tackle the body of my 55.

You should just clear coat all that clean metal and put a top turret and some nose art on it, like a B-17.

G'day Serenity, Thanks for the complement my friend. 55's look to be much more challenging that old 40 series. I don't think I would be brave enough to tackle one. Cheers, Ben

G'day All, Well I had the day off work and started to notice to a little bit of surface rust appearing on Mario. So, I decided today was day to spray some epoxy primer. I feel more relieved than anything else. The job is far from perfect and I got some ugly runs that will need to be sanded out. But in general terms pretty happy. I reckon it should come up okay.

The bad. Spraying the glove box and under the dash and behind the door pillars was bugger of a job. I kept banging the spray gun into things and the hose rubbed on bits I had already painted.

That’s a good solid base coat Ben. It’s just a working coat so it doesn’t have to be pretty.

On a different note, never say never mate!
