That is f**king unbelievable. You should be proud mate, all your hard work has paid off. You should also be teaching this stuff as you're the only man I know that can spray in 5* weather and have it not blush!

Come on mate, stop teasing us with the peep show and get on with the main event. Let’s see that cab and bed in their full beige glory!!

Looks good
.... beige is a comfortable colour in warm areas.
Cheers... enyoy some shadow under eucalyptus trees :)

G'day Cult and Indestructible 47, The fact that I had to spend a hour working out what 'blushing' or 'milking' is, when it comes to spray painting indicates that I shouldn't be teaching this stuff to anybody. I think I had two things in my favour. Warming up the paint and the fact that although it was cold, it was also dry, which might have prevented moisture settling on the parts. Cheers, Ben

Sanding, sanding, sanding, sanding, sanding........rest.........sanding, sanding, sanding, sanding...........rest.......more sanding! Big sanding, little sanding, hand sanding, machine sanding, block sanding, scotchbrite sanding. Wax on....Wax off.

Beautiful Ben! Gotta do it properly or it's not worth doing eh? At least that's what an old digger told me and so far i can't prove him wrong:)

Read your project from page 1-40 amazing job you did on Mario. The engine paint looks very similar to the celica engine i painted awhile back gm blue and silver paint.. looking forward to more pics and progress. All the details are awesome!

Well guys, It has been a while since I updated this thread. This is what I have discovered. There seems to be a general rule of thumb that if you are painting a car using a 'solid' or 'direct gloss' 2-pac paint system (so the gloss and colour are paint are one product ) as opposed to using a 'clear over base' paint system (you paint the colour and then spray a 2-pac clear coat over the top) then you dry sand to 400 grit.

This is cool, if you have a state of the art sanding system. I don't - just a crappy old orbital sander! I dry-sanded the cab, guards, bibs, and front panel to 400 and wasn't overly happy. So I thought bugger it, and gave everything another coat of high-fill primer and wet sanded to 800 grit. It feels smoother.

Here are couple of pics to bring you up to speed.

I then gave everything another coat of high-fill primer and started wet sanding. Wet sanding is a much nicer process, zen-like, wax-on wax off sort of process. Put on some tunes, no dust, no noise. Just a bit messy. The black stuff is a guide coat so you can tell where you have sanded. Some people just you a rattle can of paint for guide coat, but I found it gummed up the sand paper.
