There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

Lol that’s lame, you’re lame dude
You know you would too, just admit it. 440 lbs torque and 29 mpg's. That's what we've been wanting from Toyota for a long time, but now, no more Landcruiser for America and no diesel version so we've been forgotten by Big T. That's lame!

x5 1HDFT/FTEs in my shop. All running GTurbos with 28psi.

Cheaper to swap that in than buy the heep. 1,000,000x better! 😆

Cheers

OMG, I'm glad I bought mine when i did last year and thought i paid too much at $19k for a 3x locked LX450 with 185k miles and it came with way more new goodies than the ones i'm seeing going for +$30k . I'll never say never , but if i ever sell mine i'll have to shank all the hipster overland wannabes just be able to ever buy another . Makes me wonder what the wife's FJ62 is worth.:smokin: I bought mine to wheel, wrench and build and not to go to the mall or have a parking lot princess, just ask my wife, she is hesitant to go with me and always asks "why do you pick the hardest lines to go up or down and WTF was that hill for"? my reply "Because I can". Crap, I feel bad for people that actually want to Overland and wheel, Poor Bastards have to buy a Jeep:flipoff2::flipoff2:🤯

I just won an auction in Japan for this 1996 HDJ81 with the 1HDFT, 5-speed manual, and about 315,000 kms (195k miles). Paid about $16k so far which includes all the fees and shipping. I'll probably have to drop another $1-2k in import duties and registration fees. Should be here in about a month.

LOL @sogafarm Gladiators are great. They look fantastic, are pretty plush, can roll 35”+ sold axle, etc. They do have a lot going for them......

Except the feel of rolling in vintage iron. It’s impossible to replicate.

You can’t argue that this isn’t awesome, but I would feel like I belonged to cast of Jersey Shore.

Next 80 up for auction, 97 with 215k with lockers and full ARB kit extremely clean truck. This one will go big!

Dude thank you so much this was exactly the info I was looking for and well-timed!
Don't know if this helps at this point. I am currently going through this and found out my insurance company will initially have it appraised to get what is called "stated value" and then you can get it insured for a specified amount. Since I am doing a ground up build and swapping in a dif engine etc. I simply need to supply the receipts to show the work was done and supply the actual car for appraisal.

I'm gonna break ranks here and say that if I could get enough for my 80 that I could buy a Gladiator Diesel Rubicon, I'd have to sell the cruiser, hands down.
I am not sure if this applies to current Jeeps, but I'll pass along what was shared with me a few years back regarding Jeep Rubicons. Four years ago I had a winch and off-road lights installed on my '81 FJ40 at a national off-roading "store." After the install was completed one of the techs invited me to the back bay area to inspect the installation. While I was back there four or five techs came up to tease me about my "old tractor truck," and how it was "slow, and noisy and smelled like gas." It was all in good fun. I made a comment to one of the techs that maybe I should have just bought a Jeep instead. The manager's response was along the lines that there were ten techs who worked on new Rubicons all day everyday and not one of them would be caught dead owning one. The CJ's - yes - those were cool and tough, but not the current Jeeps - not for a long time. He went on to say that they are loaded with plastic bits and pieces and that the electrical systems starting acting up after 15,000 miles. His final comment was the clincher for me, which was, "When you drive home tonight count how many lifted Jeep Rubicons you see on the road compared to how many FJ40's." I already knew the answer to that one, and it puts a big grin on my face every time I drive my 40.

I currently own a 2013 two door JK totally stock, no lift, michelins in stock size. I use it as a daily commuter when I don't need the Taco for hauling stuff. It has the 3.6 pentistar motor with auto trans. I have to tell you that it's been great minus the random traction control light that comes on at totally random times. Plenty of power and 22mpg's and smooth ride. I don't beat up on it off road, but I live two miles from a paved road so it gets its use in 4wd sometimes.

I've driven every jeep from cj5 to the JK. I wouldn't even touch a TJ, they are crap. I haven't driven the new JL's yet as they seem pretty much the same as the JK's with the same motor. The old CJ's are cool and drive like s***, but, they were real jeeps, rough and rowdy.

I love old landcruisers (fj40, fj60, and fj80's)as their build quality is second to none, but they are no longer the utilitarian trucks they used to be and getting harder to find good running affordable versions. Jeep comes along with an american made product with the diesel, lockers, removable top, etc and is making a killing in Toyota's vacancy, so there is no competition as they are the last solid axle vehicles available new.

I wish Toyota would come out with a separate marker of the Landcruiser brand and sell they're utilitarian vehicles that they sell in Australia like the 70 series with v8 diesels. They have totally missed the american market with they're vacancy in this catagory, a mistake IMHO.

And that's enough about Jeeps, back to the escalating 80 series prices $$$$$! Makin' money, woohoo!:bounce:

After owning a Gladiator Rubicon, I'd have to say ehhhh.....

Skinny of the story is I don't have the Gladiator any longer, but I do still have my 80

Let’s hear it. Inquiring minds like to be informed, other than the fact they cost three times the price of an 80.

These do peak my interest, but a nice old Scrambler would be more my speed.
