There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

Hey Folks,

Trying to determine the value of a '97 triple locked with 239k. Paint looks great, seats recovered. The current owner of 10 years with lots of maintenance. Lockers are confirmed but do not engage.

Buying. Planning to replace my '97 without lockers and 260k.

That would be ~15 - 19k in my area if other things check out. White is a favorable color and you'll be paying a premium for maintenance records, good paint and recovered seats. I'd ask when the last time the lockers worked, they might just need cleaning.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds about right these days with no rust and no other major problems, but the lockers not working could be used as leverage to lower the price another $3k or more depending on the seller's situation. 239k miles is approaching that mileage penalty that hits hard around 250k miles so more leverage for the buyer. As gas prices continue to sky rocket, the prices will be coming down a bit to compensate.

Here is a comparable on BAT right now with 179k miles but no lockers and one day left. Bids go up dramatically on the last hour so we will see.

I had a mechanic friend look at it today. Said birfields need to be replaced, suspension work and oil leaks too. Thoughts?

Ammo for the negotiation. How much is the seller asking?
So here's the kicker. I tried to but it from him 3yrs ago for an agreed price of $8500 but he wasn't ready to let it go. I texted him out of the blue a couple weeks back and we started talking again. At first he said he thought between 9-10k, I told him I'd bring $9500. A few days went by, he researched and told me he thought he could get $14k and that he'd come down to $12k. I said it was too high for me. He called last weekend and we talked extensively, he suggested $11k. Given it needs suspension, birfields and addressing the oil leak, it looks like I need to put in another $2500 fairly quickly.

$11k is not out of the question and may be a good compromise depending on your area these days. If he puts it up for sale nationally, you may miss the chance. As far as any used 80 series, your going to have to put money into it to baseline and fix any major leaks. Find out where the leak is coming from first. A new head gasket is not cheap, but a new oil seal for the distributer is an easy fix. Most 80's will have to have the knuckle's done as that is a maintenance item that's often neglected so count on that regardless.

It's a seller's market these days so you have to get what you can get. $11k with lockers for a base is a good starting point if you can get there, otherwise prepare to walk.

This one sold for $14K No Reserve: 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-toyota-land-cruiser-fj80-13/ and it was pretty badly battered by rust and would have needed all the work you're listing (including a baseline)... food for thought.

Sold for $46,500 not including 5% buyers premium. 209k miles. 3x locked. Fresh paint in an aftermarket color. Pretty long list of mods, but nothing crazy. I think we will be seeing a lot more frame off restorations

There’s a lot of effort and resources that went into that truck.

o_O is right.

o_O is right.
It was between just two bidders. I was guessing it would go for 20k, bids were going up by $250, but then they started bidding at $2k increments. F'n crazytown! And NO lockers!
