Let’s try this again, prior thread deleted, I assume they want to keep it clean, there was no explation given.

If you have sold a 100 series recently and want to share what you paid with details on truck this will be helpful for potential buyers currently looking.

This thread can be helpful for buyers looking to understand the market and different factors that come into play on pricing.

Please stay on topic!

I recently sold 2004 LX with 176k for 12,500. Truck was 9/10 on condition with full service records. Southern Vehicle no rust.

Thoughts on this one? I’m a little concerned about the undercarriage but hard for me to tell with the undercoating that’s been done.

When the rear hatch is rusting, better believe underneath is. I’d cross it off my list being in Miami, in my experience there have been some shady dealers down there.

Thanks that makes sense. Especially since it spent most of it la life in N. VA/MD.

Gents,
Thanks for all the helpful insight on this site.
Brand new here, been on the hunt for a 100 series for a while but having a harder time finding one rust free up here in the NE.

This one is a 2000 with 200k, and I’m looking for feedback on how bad this undercarriage rust is. Should this level of rust be a dealbreaker? At any price or just for >$10k cars?

Thanks in advance,
Britches

How long do you plan on keeping it, and what do you want to do with it while you have it?

My wife drives a 01 LX with similar rust, about 195k on the clock. If you're just gonna ride it around and not do a bunch of mods it'll probably be fine, but when you do have to fix stuff it's a PITA fighting all the rusty parts. So if you're planning to do a lot of mods I would advise steering clear of that much rust because it will be super annoying changing parts

For the NE that is as rust free as they get. Everyone on Mud says you need to fly to the desert for these things. The hitch/bumper support/ rear tire carrier on these love to rust and this one looks great. I don't see anything concerning. I'd get it and not worry about it (but mine has worse rust!)

This would double as both a daily driver & a trail truck for fun on the weekends. So I’d like to plan on 5+ yrs at least, but we do live in PA & the salt up here gets crazy each year.

Here’s another local option, ‘06 LX w/ 180k. Went to see this one after seeing it listed as “Rust Free” with a clean interior, but definitely disappointed with what I found. Especially with them asking nearly 20K for it.

…but if I’m dreaming to think there are better options out there without flying to the desert, definitely say so.

sold mine for 16,600 for anyone wondering about current prices to help with their sale. It went to a good home with another 100 and a 200. It took me a really long time  SOLD - DFW: 2005 Lexus LX470 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/dfw-2005-lexus-lx470.1281679/
Seems like a good sell for $16,600. I would think the $14k-16k mark would be on the money value wise. Some people on these forums have dollar signs in their eyes and will tell your your ride is worth way more than it actually is. Just take a look at the classifieds… 6 months ago it would be hard to see any that didn’t sell in a couple days, now the 100 series forum is pages and pages of unsold. I got an 06 LC in similar condition/miles with all the big maintenance done and about $8k in aftermarket goodies for $19k a couple months ago. You should be more than happy getting what you did for it. Congrats on the sale!

Ouch. Didn’t you turn down $20k+ pretty early on? I strongly considered making the drive to Texas to look at buying it but decided that the ad wording was a bit aggressive to fool with that drive for a take it or leave it situation on one w near 200k miles.

Be careful, sometimes people will spray paint over the rust, look for any signs of overspray, chipping paint or bubbles under the black paint.
Edit: I'd stay away from the second vehicle. I see holes in it. Also avoid ones with any kind of rubberized undercoating/linex and never use rubberized undercoating.

Yes. I turned down a 20 and an 18K early on. You live and learn. I turned down those when I had it listed for 25k. I listed mine at 25K when many at that time were listed at 27-28k with similar or less specs. Gas prices took a hit on the price on these for sure. I am curious as to what you mean by "wording bit aggressive to fool"...in the spirit of learning, I would like to know. You can PM me if you want. My intention was not to fool anyone or dissuade any potential buyers with my wording.

He was probably talking about this bit:

**I have asked other MUD members about my price and I was told that I can get it if I wait long enough so disrespectful OPINIONS regarding price are NOT welcomed. I will work with serious buyers on price if you can find me COMPARABLE vehicle selling or sold**

Thanks for the feedback @fevermag You got a great deal on yours. I originally listed mine at 25k when others with similar specs had them listed for 26-27k. I know you may not agree but as a seller, you want to get the most money you can, especially for someone like me who spent almost 30k for my lower miles 06. On the one I sold, I also put in about 4k worth of work and only drove it about 2k miles. In my case, my buyer also wanted to pay $15k but after seeing 2 others with higher miles, multiple owners, limited records and not in good condition cosmetically, they were happy to pay an extra $1600. For the record, I only made $100 after all that and I disclosed all that with the buyer.

Bingo. All the talk of maintenance done/inspection was great (I would still get my own inspection in addition as a buyer). I thought that part and the whole deal of I’m not a dealer but a lot of people think I act like a dealer was a bit much. A lot of it I thought just came across a little braggadocious. Some of it just didn’t land with me as a buyer (maybe I’m the only one but given how long it took to sell I may not be) wanting to walk up inspect a truck, come to a fair number, head to the bank and get a cashiers check and drive home. If I’m driving 5 hours there and five home or flying and driving home, the ad was a little off-putting. I can’t speak for others, but the dealership experience has sucked as of late on trying to buy one, the last thing I want to do is fork over a decent size sum of money for the same bs from a private sale.
