I would be in for a three pieces black mat set.

it am in for a black set, don't care how many pieces as long as its functional and fits my 78's.

I would be interested in the final product, what ever you decide is best option for you, but my preference would be one piece, black, 'Toyota'.
Good luck, and glad someone is delving into this needed item. I still have my oem '78 mat in pretty good shape, though it does have one split in it about 6" long. It is raining here today and prolly tomorrow, so I can't take pictures for you, maybe Monday or Tuesday I can.

Keep at this please,

I'd be interested in black ideally. Dark grey would be choice #2. Oh and I prefer separate mats. To allow the floor to "breathe" under the mat you will need to mold bumps on the bottom side to create channels to let air flow. So therefore it would need to be pretty rigid so it wouldn't sag. Something like this:

I'll be following this as I'd be interested in either a three piece set or weathertech type. I like the charcoal idea. not a bad idea to leave shifter holes out of hem to let people cut them in to fit any modifications that have done.

I,m just down the road in Tulsa with an OEM mat in good shape that you are welcome to use for a pattern. 1975

Thanks for the pictures of the OEM mat. I'm thinking to keep costs down it would be just 2 floor mats for driver and passenger sides no hump.
IMO there's no point in doing a two piece mat. There's plenty of those that already exist and fit (I have the cruiser corps mats and they fit perfectly).
If you can do something close to an oem style mat, even if it took 3 pieces to do it, then you'd have something unique that I'd be willing to pay a premium for.

Ditto!

hello,
Do these actually exist? Can you place orders? Please msg me if possible.

I didn't want to hijack a thread but I was on here posting about the project of fzj80 E-locker axles under a 40 saw a thread about floor mats, so I thought I would start a new one.

Is there much interest in a molded floor mats for an FJ40? Rather than have Toyota molded in it how about FJ40? Or Landcruiser?

We mold swim deck mats for boat companies and I saw this thread about floor mats and thought about maybe making a tool to mold mats for the fj40's? Never really thought about it before until I saw this thread. Here's a couple of pictures of one of the products what we presently manufacture. (Keep in mind this mat is almost 8 ft. x 4 ft.) I don't don't know if the nubs as pictured would be a good idea or just straight lines along the long axis. Would be real interested in your thoughts. I'm thinking a 70 Shore A hardness approx. 3/8" thick.View attachment 923527 View attachment 923528

Let me know your thoughts. Good or bad we have thick skin. Keep in mind the reason the 1st mat looks wavy is because it's sitting on a table with about 20 other different mats below it.
There would be no .com on it.......just saw that post......man you guys won't cut me any slack on that will you?

Right now if we did it would be available in dark Grey [charcoal] or the lighter white in the previous picture. I'll try to remember to take a picture of the dark Grey tomorrow.
