Please, dump the FJ40 idea. How about the BJ's, HJ's the 42's, 45's and so on.

Best option would be to match OEM as perfectly as possible. That would mean full size, black, and Toyota written on it.
Second best would be a three piece where you could just buy a driver's mat, BUT it would need to be black to match existing drivers hump.
IIRC, they didn't get into gray mats until 79, and that's a different shape. Also a lot fewer 79's and later trucks out there and those mats were still available from Toyota not that long ago.

I remove my mats often to clean. I have the CruiserCorps rubber mats. I also have a 3 piece set of carpets but I only use the tranny hump piece. When I clean, I don't remove it. One mat would be a pain to remove. The best option (for me) would be three separate pieces. You'd need three tools though.

I'd be interested. I'd also prefer black, but charcoal wouldn't prevent me from purchasing it. White/light gray actually WOULD prevent me from purchasing it. As a V8 convert with my shifter arms in all the wrong paces, I would prefer a two-piece Matt. Otherwise, I'd just be chopping up the new matt to allow clearance around the modified shifter holes in the transmission hump. I also think you'd run into trouble if you were trying to make a single mold for an OEM reproduction. I believe the tranny humps changed over the years. You'd have to find yourself a transmission hump from each iteration, then make a mold to accommodate. Similarly, I think the inside edge of the matts would have to vary by year (along the transmission hump) for proper fit. Not 100% sure about this, but it might make sense to leave the inner edge "cut to fit."

As for the label: I think TEQ or Land Cruiser would be good. My preference might actually be TEQ.

In either case, I'd be interested in a set, if you decide to move forward. I still want to buy your dash - unfortunately I have had to worry about my truck being driveable first. Keep up the good work!

Myself, a stiff and one piece (for each footwell (front), with raised edge like Weather tech digi fit, would be the way to. I prefer good fit AND keeping mud/dirt away from the floor, but easy to remove and just dump out, spray off. Not worried about an OEM look

I would prefer a one piece that goes over the hump (they seem the hardest to find) or a three piece design to accommodate different needs. As said before, there are many other models out there besides the FJ40, so just Toyota or Landcruiser would be best in my opinion. Black is a neutral and widely used color, but I wouldn't mind seeing a tan (saddle leather color) one. That's a little selfish, since I have a JDM BJ41 with L package that I can't find an original mat for. The long straight lines are better for design, and would probably appeal to a wider market. I would also like to see a matching cargo mat too.

I like the WeatherTec type catch all floor mats - maybe 3/4 to1 inch lip all the way around, fairly rigid.

I'd need the 79 & later shape

Same here. I would really like a WeatherTech type mat to catch all the debris and ridged enough that rain/mud/snow doesn't slosh around outside of the mat. the being able to hose it down after (so easily removable) would be a good bonus too.

There has been some good discussion and food for thought.

I checked out the mats on Cruiser Corps and didn't think they looked all that bad nor were they priced out of this world. However, it has nothing molded into it. It's a piece of rubber that has been massed produced and cut to the shape needed. The problem with molding "Toyota" or "Land Cruiser" into a mat is that it's Copyrighted by Toyota.

The Weather Tech type of mat has me thinking about it though.

Thanks for the input.

Toyota seems to have been allowing things with Toyota and Land Cruiser for a while. Fiberglass bezels and Toyota emblems. I would do Toyota or Land Cruiser. FJ40 would limited your market to BJ/HJ owners as well a 45 owners. Would think at a minimum you would want three styles. early 72, 73 to 78 and 79+. Back edge would different on the three. I like the idea of Weather Tech floor liner. Have them in my Sequoia and really like them. Going with two piece would be easiest. Beside 73, early 74 being different than the rest of 74 to 78 there are so many custom setups out there. My 76 which was a prototype has mat that was stock except all the shifter holes were not cut like the PTO. Transfer case shifter is to the left of transmission shifter and custom cut while the stock location has the raised edge just not cut. That may be a idea also.

I'm running Toyota rubber mats in my FJ62 which are for the 100 series. The front mats have Land Cruiser on the outer edge while the back say Toyota.

The copyright may be the deciding factor , I'm sure most would agree the TEQ logo would be the best and many would prefer TOYOTA - but back to factor #1 - copyright . Hence , there are blank mats cut to size in generic form for a reason . A molded Weathertech style mat isn't easy , nor cheap due to variable styles of body changes in the floor area . Tooling out at least 3 versions of basic mat shapes just generic enough to clear variances created by different trans humps , pto shifters and the like triples the problems of a sales point to an already limited market . Not voting the venture down by any means , but members need to know this stuff and why it drives the cost of aftermarket parts . This is why "cool stuff " for a vehicle of this type doesn't last long in general - an initial large run is made and demand drops far enough not to warrant another production run , lot of great products have disappeared for this reason .

My reference to breathing is allowing air in some way or another to vent from under the mat . The driver's floor in these things gets very hot , especially for those that have relocated the exhaust above the tcase crossmember such as I have . Add a header to the mix and it can actually melt the oem floor tar coating on hot days - as well as cheap sneakers . One big issue with running mats is the heat/cooling cycles that can create condensation against the floor as well as trapping dirt/moisture against that sheet metal . Stopping rust is always first , comfort second ....

Land Cruiser , in script similar to early side emblems would be a great fit-all for almost all models .

I'd like a one piece or three piece, with no holes to allow for different shifter locations due to the different engine conversions.
A WeatherTec style would be great in dark gray or black.

Not sure if many of you are familiar Kevin's (Awl_TEQ) tailgates for the FJ45LP-B LWB truck. He is making them with TOYOTA stamped in just like the original. For a number of years only tailgates made without Toyota were available. Maybe Toyota realizes having their name out there on items they no longer make is not a bad thing.

Weathertech style for sure, no nubs on backing andd piable rubber...............like weathertech!
