Sorry Crushers Yesterday was my last day so youll have to wait another week before Im back. But ill take some more then.

Michael Hanson How often do they come up for sale? MIke
To be honest you wouldnt want them by the time were finished with them. We just got ride of the last of our 75series cruisers and they were pretty much wrecks. The Mine I work for get the Vehicles chopped/modified to suit. Id been told the Wagons owe them $110,000 by the time they get to the mine. Id imagine the troopy wouldnt be far of that also.

It's wild to me a truck can give them 110 000$ worth of work over other options... It really speaks to how reliable they must be for them!

Even a wreck I can see things I'd like to take off of them... How much does a wreck sell for? Or is it an auction?

Great thread, hope you keep adding! Pic's, info, etc etc

Considering that these mines are pushing out millions a week in whatever ore they are mining, spending a few hundred g's on 7x series rigs probably isn't even something they think about.

LCs are probably merely a "cost of doing business" expense.

:meh:

Bummer for us.

it isn't the cost of the Land Cruiser that matters to the mines ... it is the down time.
the mines tried NA diesel trucks a few years back. they found the Cruiser lasted 5000 hrs but the NA s*** lasted only 500 hrs. the down time was unacceptable for business.
but
it seems some are trying Merc trucks since the Cruisers are loosing the battle for emissions. this is the reason the 1HZ is slated to go 1HZE in 2013 ... so rumor has it.

electronic injection fuel pump. Giving the thing a brain. I don't like it.

Interesting. That would be a first for the 1HZ engine considering it is now the longest running Toyota engine ever in its first engine family designation.

Longer than the 1FZ petrol engine even which had a good run at over 15 yrs of service with no real changes beyond a direct ignition change.

FB is right, the electronic controlled pump.
originally it was supposed to happen in 2010 but Toyota updated the change.
whether it actually happens? i have no idea.

but the mines buys a LOT of Cruisers so i doubt they would want to lose that market.

The last of the 75series sold for around $20000 each at auction. Complete with damage to every panel, cracked/welded chassis and no tray. Most had rooted gearboxes. The open pit vehicles seem to last well and its realy only bushes and suspension components that get slogged out. Underground on the other hand get an absolute flogging, think foot flat 3rd Lo for 18hrs a day. Engines are around $40000 new if you can get them and $20000 2nd hand. Gearboxes dont last long and a set of tyres last about 4weeks. I had heard a rumour that some Australian mines were removing the turbos to detune them but unsure if thats true.

It wouldnt surprise me,the V8 can chew the tyres because it difficult to get traction on wet slippery rocks which can cut the tyres to bits.
My brother says the more experienced hands at his mine prefer the 1HZ to the V8.

Whats the main idea of adding the electronics to the fuel pump, cleaner burn? I cant see it adding oodles of power.

Did you hear "the Cruiser lasted 5000 hrs but the NA s*** lasted only 500 hrs" that from word or mouth or read it somewhere? I would love to show some of the ford and GM guys I know that claim amazing reliability, but also seem to have a new truck a write up including that statistic!

Why couldn't they just put a cataylatic converter system in the exhaust like all the 2010 and up transport trucks did?

cheers

i heard it from Brian at Ens Industrial a few years back.
it seems one of the mines decided that the Toyota's were too expensive so they tried the NA diesels.
pretty soon they were ordering toyota's again...
