HITR is going to be VERY HOT in June/July time period. Keep that in mind. Very hot.

And yes, probably the most epic trail in the US IMO. I've done it about 10 times now.

I think it is 2nd most epic...behind Beasley Knob

The heat was my first concern as well. In game to give it a shot. I would recommend everyone have some sort of water temp monitoring ability. I guess trips like these are why my black 80 turned into rare expedition white last summer.

Not sure what HITR is like but my 200 didn't have any issues crawling around a few trails in Canyonlands last year in August. I have an OBD2 reader and monitor the trans temps as well as coolant. Even with camelbaks I can't say I felt the same about some of the hiking trails though. Oof. Walking around or doing a field repair on a broken rig on HITR would be a different story.

We ran for something like 13 hours straight last year. No coolant issues.

I get more concerned about transmission temps. But I also do regular fluid changes since towing, especially in the mountains at altitude, has a similar effect.

I am not talking about your trucks. The trucks won't have any issues. I am talking about the humans driving the trucks.

I personally would not want to be out there with no shade in that brutal SOUT heat.

96 with little to zero humidity in July is not bad at all. 110+ would be harsh

I am with @steenh on this one! As someone who had their radiator decide to quit at the highest and furthest point on the trail a few years back, I do monitor water temps constantly now. My radiator was fifteen years old and had 185k miles on it then, so it was time. I am sure all of you 200 guys don’t have to worry about that yet, but it wouldn’t be a great place to have cooling issues since it is so remote.

Certainly makes sense to keep an eye on temps.

On the encouraging side...I think about Dubai, Saudi Arabia, African Sahara & other Middle East locales where the UN guys drive their heavily armored 200's all day long with 115-120F as a pretty normal thing in the hot season.

That's where that over-sized radiator is so nice to have!

Last year in Moab Late July it was somewhere near 100 on the way though Hell's Revenge, etc.
Air conditioner was cranking like crazy, & as far as I know, we were all good with vehicle temps.

Anyone?

On a side note, might be a good time to check air conditioning coolant so it's not working overly hard at the same time our radiators are cranking.
I discovered my coolant was way low about 8 months ago, and it was AMAZING what a difference recharging it made.
Just picked up a do-it-yourself can from Home Depot and it worked a charm. Gets SUPER cold now.

Exactly why I do Moab in May. I am only 6 hours a way so that helps a lot and even then some days can get to 90 but typically low 80's

I heard from a co-worker the Waterfall on gold bar is waaaay worse after a recent washout. Like 12 feet tall now.

Not that you guys are going to go on that trail or anything this time around....

@Willy beamin are we still debating on HITR or other trails? If we do go with HITR I am guessing we are all camping out, so no need to book any hotels etc? Just trying to gauge if and where we will need to book hotels other than in Telluride.

Oh and let me know when you are heading out to UT, we will swing through Lville on the way out and we can convoy it to Moab.

If the choice is HITR, I am in. It is such a great trail that I am always down for that adventure. Plus, I am not sure that a group of 200s has ever conquered that trail...so it would be cool to be the first. With that said, I don't even own a 200, so my vote doesn't even count .
